The LaST Upgrade Part 39 - TF536 ST EDITION

Last updated August 9, 2021

Project shelved due to lack of interest.

The TF536 ST EDITION is a exxos port of the popular TF536 Amiga accelerator by terriblefire. The PCB has been revised in various places to include more parts on the bottom so that they can be supplied preassembled. It's most prominent new feature is the on-board DUALTOS ROM where the decoding is built into the PLD. You can for example have TOS206 and EMUTOS in ROM without requiring a separate dual tos board..

The firmware & hardware has been extensively revised to suit the Atari ST range of computers.the original TF536 firmware only allowed 50MHz operation while accessing fast-ram. The ST edition runs at 50MHz continuously giving the system a boost much as possible.

Below are current benchmarked to the REV3 (as illustrated in the above image). GB6 is running in fast-ram along with TOS.

REVISION HISTORY

TF536 rev1 & rev2 are the initial terrible fire release boards which are not part of the ST EDITION series. At the time of typing the REV2 boards are on still on sale in the store.

TF536 ST EDITION REV3 is the initial release of the board which is the one as illustrated in the top of the page and requires the pull-up resistor of 1K shown on the image. The IDE port is not functional on this revision. This board has been developed on the H4 motherboard and should also work fine on the H5. It is currently un-tested on the original ST motherboards which will at least need all the mandatory fixes doing. But as original machines have so many problems, I am not officially supporting this accelerator on the original machines.

TF536 ST EDITION REV5 The next version which will have the IDE port fixed. This board currently is not in production or available to buy, it depends how much interest there is as to whether it will be produced or not. Current news is posted on the forum

FIRMWARE & TOOLS

REV 3 & 5 ALPHA FIRMWARE VST2A 288XL (IDE not supported, blitter will malfunction) H4 / STF (288XL no longer supported)

REV 3 & 5 ALPHA FIRMWARE VST2A 144XL (IDE not supported, blitter will malfunction) - STE build

REV 3 & 5 ALPHA FIRMWARE VST2A 144XL (IDE not supported, blitter will malfunction) - H4 / STF

FASTROM - will load the TOS206 image into fastram and reboot and then goto desktop. Includes YAARTTT & PRGFLAGS.

GEMBENCH 6 - BENCHMARK SOFTWARE

MAPROM 1.8E - Exxos edit, to turn off "copy lower RAM varibles to fast ram" as it would corrupt the floppy contents. Will copy ROM to FAST-RAM. (seems lower than FASTROM?!)

MAPROM SOURCES - Home of MAPROM tools.

DUALTOS ROM - TOS206 UK, EMUTOS 1.0.1 UK

KNOWN ISSUES

NOTE: All tests of the hardware are developed on a H4 motherboard. Original machines may well likely have other faults which are beyond my scope to resolve.

1) Machines with a blitter fitted will probably malfunction as it is not yet fully tested.

2) I have not yet managed to get BLITFIX to solve blitter issues in TOS. Is not something I can fix, as I did not write or develop the software.

3) REV3 IDE will not function and will not be fixed.

4) REV5 IDE is not yet developed in firmware.
