Atari font
I read your interesting article on the Atari font/script. What caught my eye and was rather funny was the graphic you discuss under the title "Miscellaneous sightings". That Atari multi-coloured Fuji with the strapline "Atari Video Game Systems" was one I made in 1999 for my old web site "The Atari Time Machine". The scan of the Fuji is from the back of the 1984 2600 VCS manual (Atari UK), but the strapline was of course added by myself using the font "Atarian", which is still available on-line. It was one of the closest Atari fonts available back then in TTF format.

Interestingly, one of the closest Atari fonts you can get is the "HARI" font. This was also advertised for sale with some other fonts around 1987. I'll dig the advert out for you if you need it. It is a bold version, not sure if there was a medium or light version. It is closer to the Atari Corp. utilisation than the Mumba or Hammer Fat versions. I will try and get the Atari Corp. fonts they used in-house as soon as we hunt them down.

Thanks, Karl, and by the way, the face-lifted Atari Explorer site is looking better than ever! That looks like a quite authentic font but a few characters stand out as looking unlike what I have seen to be the most up to date pre-Hasbro/Infogrames Atari font. The zero looks too oval, the round parts of the digits 6 and 9 don't look round enough and the letter "G" appears to be of the style of the light version of the font, with a vertical rather than horizontal stroke defining it as a "G". Another good find, though, thanks for sharing that with us and I hope to see more examples if you can dig them out, I never cease to be impressed by the stuff you guys dig up at the Atari Historical Society!

Another one...
I just read your article about the Atari font! Wow, like that! Always fascinating how deep you can dive in a topic which I could comment by no more than one sentence.

The other thing is: thumbs up for your great work! I know that such a hobby magazine means much much work and it lives from the user comments and contributions. So I want to give you some feedback: I love your magazine! Yes that's it!

Thanks for your support, Thomas, I remember how much you enjoyed the Atari logo article, so that gave me the idea to write this one! You're right, MyAtari is a lot of work, but it's worth it!

Interestingly, I just typed "Atari font" into Google and that article was the third result, while "Atari logo" brings up MyAtari's two Atari logo articles (the second by Uncle Harry) as the first and second results!

I
just read the article in myatari.net issue Jan 05. Yeah, I know it is a little bit late to read but better late than never. What a great article! I really liked your comparisons between the Atari fonts. Keep on writing such interesting lines...

Hopefully, myatari will get on the next issue.

Greetings from Europe.

Good to hear from you again, Johannes, glad you liked it. Yes, we're still chugging away trying to catch up! Are you coming to JagFest UK this year?
