AtariAge

Matthew Bacon reviews a site suitable for all ages

Although web sites are not technically "alive", they do arguably follow the natural cycle of life. They are born, grow up, become old and eventually die. An Atari web site far from growing old and still in the prime of its life is www.atariage.com.

AtariAge started life, under the name Atari 2600 Nexus, as a collection of links to other sites and has since developed into a flourishing site in its own right. www.atariage.com is run by two Atari enthusiasts, Albert Yarusso and Alex Bilstein. Albert is a computer programmer and is currently working on the game, Deus Ex, for the Sony Playstation 2 console whilst Alex is a web designer. With credentials like these, it is not surprising that AtariAge is a joy to behold.

The site is divided into four sections; Systems, Community, Reference and Site. The Systems section includes details of the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 - hence the 2 5 7 logo at the top-right of each page. The Community section contains a thriving message board and trading area - in association with eBay - as well as a features page (which includes an interesting report from Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which was held May 17-19, 2001, in Los Angeles, California) and store in association with Amazon.

Atari 2600, 5200 and 7800 owners will find the Reference section of great interest as it includes details on how to keep your console and cartridges in perfect working condition. The final section, Site, includes links back to the home page as well as a brief history of the site. If that wasn't enough, www.atariage.com also run an up-to-date news section (that tends to be dominated by news related to the Atari 2600, 5200 and 7800).

All in all, www.atariage.com is a superb fan site which is great to visit again and again!
