Matthew Bacon proclaims the coming
of two new UK based on-line Atari only magazines.
In the early 1990's, the UK proudly
boasted three Atari newsstand glossy magazines; Atari
User, ST Format and ST Review. Amazing though it sounds,
their monthly combined sales averaged in the region
of 100,000 copies! As we all know, things have changed
a great deal since then (for a start I am no longer
a student and now have to work for a living).
Atari User, ST Format and ST Review
sadly no longer grace the newsstands, but all is not
lost for the Atari users of today ;-) When Atari Computing
(another fine mag) published its last issue in January
2000, some users took that to be the sign to finally
sell their Atari systems. Rightly or wrongly, many users
decided to forge on and not "jump ship" as
it is commonly known.
Where is all this inane rambling leading...?
Oh yes! In Autumn 2000, two new Atari magazines launched
in a bid to continue the journey that Atari User, ST
Format, ST Review and Atari Computing began; "To
go where no other Atari magazine had gone before ...
to infinity and beyond" - sorry, cheap gag!
What makes these two magazines different
from all the others?? Quite simply, no paper! as both
Atari Active and MyAtari are published free over the
internet. I acknowledge that this method of distribution
is not unique to either Atari Active nor MyAtari, however,
what is interesting is that they both approached the
concept very differently and ironically oblivious to
each other.
Although AA and MA each has its own
style and emphasis, both - more importantly - deserve
your support! So why not visit Atari Active and MyAtari
today.
Atari Active in action!
MyAtari magazine in all its glory ;-)
