IMPORTANT: The official exxos web store link is https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/store2/ which can also be found as a link on the FORUM nav-bar. I do not have any official distributors and I do not know of anyone reselling my products. Always use the official exxos store web shop link to ensure you are buying from the genuine web store. Due to spam companies like Cloudmark and others such as Microsoft blocking my server and Stripe, a lot of customers are no longer receiving payment, receipt, tracking emails from Stripe and my store. There is a whole thread about this HERE . So you must register on the exxosforum and then follow the instructions in THIS thread to obtain your order history and tracking information. It is still up to you to check your tracking every few days to see if there is any problems relating to delivery of your packages.. If you need help please open up a topic on the forum HERE as it is the official support portal whre a lot of questions have already been answered. I regret I am unable to offer one-on-one support anymore due to my R.S.I.
******************************* Q) How can I contact you? Please don't take it that I am trying to be unhelpful, but the majority of the time I am basically repeating the same information over and over again and it just becomes tiresome after a while. Replying to questions on the forum means it helps other people as well in the future! Please note I do all this as a hobby. I am not some massive company with the resources to help 20 people with multiple problems each day. The majority of the time it is information which is either already available on the forum, or should be requested on the forum where the community may be able to help you as well. Please take the effort to look for yourself for information! There is a massive wealth of information on the forum and guides already. Please also read the many questions which are listed on this page as well. Please click the (I) buttons in the store which often takes you to install pages. Or see my website. Q) Can I get support for your products on any other
platforms? Q) What is exxos brand? Q) Can you send me printed instructions ? Q) Why are your prices increasing lately ? Obtaining parts these days is either impossible or they have gone up several times in price. Finding 30+ year old parts is difficult to begin with. I do not expect the market to stabilise any time soon and indeed some manufacturers/suppliers have discontinued some lines of parts totally making them harder to find and more expensive. So either the prices rise to reflect current market prices or they just become simply too expensive to purchase again. Some items have doubled in price and my own stocks are running out. So my store has to reflect the current market prices. Like the 30 pin simm sockets. While they still can be obtained, they are basically 4x more expensive to buy than they was before.. I would also have to purchase a pack of 1,000 and the cost of buying them would cost thousands of pounds. With the sales of them only been a handful a year, its not feasible to keep these in stock any longer. Again finding these older parts is only ever going to become more problematic. I was already spending considerable time locating parts at the best prices even before Covid. Now it has basically turned into a full-time job where I do not get paid for this work unfortunately. I have bills to pay like others. Some parts are only obtainable from China which are of dubious quality to start with. The time taken to test every single one is always increasing and the quality of parts is constantly decreasing. A lot of parts do not pass my qualification and get binned! Finding parts for 30 year old machines these days is basically impossible now. Unfortunately it is just inevitable that the prices will continue to rise and the availability will fall. There is nothing I can do about this! I have tried my best to purchase as much items in bulk as possible but even my own personal stocks is now running extremely thin. The only source of parts these days is by buying machines "as scrap" off the Internet and obtaining parts that way. Unfortunately it is very time-consuming and expensive when machines are rising to around £100 each to buy now. In the past I was able to sell off the cases to obtain some of the money back but they are just "bottom of the pile" machines these days and with the postal system smashing basically everything as well. Dismantling the machines takes a lot of time. Taking metalwork and broken cases to the tip takes a lot of time. Un-soldering chips, cleaning them up, straightening the legs, testing them, all takes a lot of time . Spending £100 on the machine to recycle the four main chips is basically at £25 a chip already. Not all chips function or guaranteed to work either. Some of the PLCC parts are soldered down are not easily removable. Recycling machines for parts, its difficult to even get my money back on them. So I was basically providing a free service for people at this point. I just simply cannot continue to do all these work for free any more. Undoubtedly there are always people who complained that my prices should be cheaper. I always try to make things as cheap as possible but those days are gone now I'm afraid! My prices always reflect the total cost of the project split over a number of items which are sold. There is zero profit in this method!! It actually makes me rather angry when people think things should be cheaper when they obviously they have no idea the amount of hours of free work that developers like myself put into things. People again have to realise you have already had prices extremely cheap for years now! I have done all this work for free already. I'm certainly not giving away hardware for free either. If I actually charged for all my time I spent on all this stuff I would be a multimillionaire by now. I am of course not making any money on the hardware either. People also have to realise the market is only ever getting smaller for these Atari machines. Producing small batches of items is very difficult in conjuction of keeping costs down. In reality every single project should have a starting price of more like £20,000 per kit for all the time which goes into design research and prototypes. If people are really that passionate about driving prices down then fine, you pay my wages a fair rate for a electronics engineer to design projects ( This can easily be £2,000+ per day) then you can sell the items at whatever loss you like to get prices down. Considering I purchased a Voltera printer which cost £3,500 and a lot more on top of that with nozzles and solder paste! Realistically, how many kits alone would I have to sell to even equal that amount ? Then multiply the hundreds of motherboards I have purchased, oscilloscopes, unltrasonic cleaners, PCB ovens, printers, parts etc etc. It all adds up. All money I will never get back. But then the smart arses then say "but this guy can sell it cheaper why can't you??". Well, maybe I am purchasing genuine parts for starters. I could easily pay £10 for a IC where China where they will be fakes or used items would cost considerably less. I have seen exactly the same thing with other sellers in the past. People sell kits cheaper than the price of buying a genuine new IC. So the cheaper product may well lead to a defective product, or simply have faults from new. Indeed things are always cheaper for a reason. If people want to go and support the counterfeit market then go ahead and do so. But do not relate those prices to my prices! My prices also help fund the exxosforum server and other services. Secondly, a lot of sellers simply "re-hash" other people's designs and work. So they do not have the outlay development like I do. I often spend weeks, months, or even years researching problems and solutions of various aspects on these machines. I already do all this work for free and honestly I do not want to continue doing this work any more. Other people do not have the skill to do such research properly and just copy other peoples work from 30+ years ago. Poorer countries generally have cheaper PCB assembly rates than I can obtain even from China. Any parts I do have to buy from China like DRAM which is hard to find now, I spend vast amounts of time looking for the stuff then testing it all. When a high percentage fail, I have to bin them which costs money. I do not just buy chips and sell them like other sellers do without testing them. Or just take a gamble on buying chips from China yourself and suffer the consequences.I am providing a service doing all this and as such I am not doing all this work for free anymore. Truth is a lot of people simply expect things for free these days. Then when they do not get it for free, they will endlessly complain. People don't realise how much time/energy/money all this work takes. So while you may enjoy your cheap prices elsewhere, you are seriously hurting developers like myself . So don't complain when you cannot obtain stuff YOU want, because the last developers have quit. Don't complain when my website and forum vanishes as there is no money to pay the bills anymore. Trust me when I say I try my utmost to keep prices as low as possible but things are just inevitably going to increase. As I said earlier, if people do not want to buy my stuff, fair enough.,It will just lead to one of the longest Atari supporters closing shop indefinitely. If people do not support me, then do not expect me to support the community either. There is only so much time/energy/money I have for things aswell. Q) Why have you discontinued a lot of items recently?
I really struggle to keep a lot of items in stock because they tend to be expensive to produce. Something which is a good seller will only typically sell 5-10 units a year. I'm not going to invest £2,000+ on producing some kit where I will only sell one or two of them a year. Part shortages has also increased the difficulty of obtaining parts and has also greatly contributed to this problem. It also has a negative impact that if I did invest that money in a reproduction of a kit and it stops selling a month later, I then have to increase prices on other items to get my money back. Of course this could have another problem of forcing people to shop elsewhere because of the price increases. There is also a huge problem which I am struggling with, which is to get stuff assembled these days. While I have assembled most items myself in the past, my time is just so taken up with daily goings-on that I rarely have time to solder things any more. Plus again with my R.S.I. I really cannot do too much soldering these days either. In fact I'm actually having to pay someone else to solder a lot of stuff these days which is basically wiping out little profits there was now. Q) Do I get a order confirmation ? Q) How do I get my tracking number? Q) How do I get a order receipts and history?
Q) Why do I have to sign up for the forum to get my
history? Q) Can you email me my tracking number? Q) Can you send me a tax invoice etc? Q) What do you do with the profits from your store?
Q) Can you build, fit, install, repair this or that
machine or upgrade? As posted on the forum recently, a bodged install of a DUALTOS board resulted in 40 hours of work of diagnostics and repair. A mediocre rate of £25 a hour would result in a £1,000 repair bill. Of course it is understandable people do not want to pay this amount. Unfortunately it is a incredible amount of work to diagnose problems with machines. Similar to assembling kits and fitting them, it can easily total a couple days worth of work where people do not generally want to pay a reasonable rate for the work to be done. When it comes to diagnosing a totally dead machine it does not take hours it can take weeks. In the past I have done repairs generally for £50-£100, but again because of my R.S.I. I simply cannot physically do this work these days. I also have been diagnosing and repairing all sorts of motherboards for almost 30 years now and it is something I just simply do not want to do any more. The main problems with these motherboards as they are badly soldered. Simply taking a working machine and taking it apart and manhandling the motherboard, is enough to break the thing. Then you literally have to re-solder the entire board. It all takes a lot of time. Also please do not do that stupid "2inch drop" thing to "repair" your machine. These machines are 30+ years old and you are not going to be doing get any good at all dropping it! The long and short of it is, if you are not experienced in soldering then simply find someone else to fit this stuff for you because if you attempt to yourself and destroy the machine, it will cost even more to fault find and repair it. It is just generally cheaper to buy a "new" machine. Alternatively considering investing in one of the H5 Phoenix platform motherboards. As upgrades are a lot easier to fit and they have a lot of tweaks & fixes already built on. It will save you a lot of time and money in the future. Q) Can you print instructions for me?
************************** Q) How do I check my order? Q) How much does it cost to
post to my country? Q) What are the transaction
charges? Please also note, I do not charge VAT on my store items. I don't get involved with VAT, if I did, store items would have to increase by 20%. So when people want to moan about prices, please don't forget you are getting VAT FREE prices already! UPDATE 2023 - Due to the ever-increasing amount of people who do not fill out their addresses correctly or miss information off completely. I have started to charge a extra £1 for all the work involved in looking up addresses and entering them in correctly. We have always done this for free before. But about 90% people are not entering their addresses correctly any more. I'm starting to charge £1 for a service fee of manually looking up and editing people's addresses for them.I'm also having to spend time writing additional scripts for my web store for address verification this all takes time. Sorry to those people who will now get charged this fee as well, who have always entered their address correctly but unfortunately the lazy people have simply ruined that for everybody :( Q) How fast do you dispatch items ? Q) My Package hasn't arrived yet ? Unclaimed packages if not collected within 2 weeks will bounce back to me and then you will have to have your order re-shipped to you. So check your tracking at least once a week to be sure. I always send out tracking emails and it is up to you, the customer, to keep check on the status of your package. If you have not had your tracking email, likely it is in your spam box so you must check! Please wait 2-3 weeks before bringing packages to my attention. Before that, keep checking your tracking URL sent to you. I can't give you anymore information that what is on that page. It also gets annoying when people ask "where is my package" after I have gone to the trouble to email them a tracking email in the first place! generally packages do turn up somewhere eventually. Also note we are having a increasing problem of overseas people not filling out their address correctly! we try to police this as much as possible but we cannot be held responsible if you give us a incorrect address and your package gets lost! If you don't know your address, how do you expect us to ? Please also note due to the virus, it is known that packages can take up to 3 months to arrive. You need to check your tracking number every week to see progress. Afraid it is just a waiting game and I cannot do anything about this! Q) CANNOT SHIP ITEMS OVER 2KG/5KG (ERROR - NO
POSTAGE OPTIONS) ? While it may seem odd to do 2 separate orders, believe me, its going to save you a lot of money over shipping a single heavier package. So the store will "error" and will not process your order until you get below 2KG weight.
************************ Q) Are your kits assembled or not ? Q) Can you assemble and fit kits to my motherboard
? Q) How do I get help with install issues? Q) Can't you include item X,Y,X in the kit?
************************ Q) My card was declined ? Q) Will you sign me up to any emailing lists ? Q) Do you take paypal ? Q) Do you sell on ebay ? Q) CAN YOU TAKE IBAN / BANK TRANSFERS? But other sellers can so why can't you I hear you cry! Well picture this. My entire web store system is automated from taking orders to stock management, stock allocation and dispatch, tracking system etc etc. The entire thing is automated, so I have zero involvement with the operation of my own web store! crazy isn't it ? So when someone wants me to send them custom bank information, I have to spend time looking for it starters. Then spend time emailing people who could possibly not reply for a couple of weeks where I will totally forget about what is going on by then. Then people start nagging me " have you got the payment yet, have you got the payment yet" every couple of days. Where I then end up logging into my bank account two or three times a day to see if the payment has gone in yet. after all messing about, what they wanted to order is probably gone out of stock by then anyway. Which then just causes even more problems and delays which can drag on for literally months. For one I have R.S.I. and I cannot endlessly use the PC all day like this any more.I can type about two sentences by hand that is a threshold of pain for me these days! A lot of the heavy lifting I use voice recognition but I do have to manually do a lot of corrections as well. Anyway, if there was a couple of people sending bank payments would get confusing who is for what payment. Which then further takes time and effort to resolve. By this time I probably replied to 20 emails of people nagging if I have had their payment yet. Then when it does not into my account I then have to spend more time trying to figure out what went wrong. Where people will then start accusing me of stealing their money when they think I have it, when I do not. Then comes the abusive emails generally. Finally I figure out what the payment is and then have to manually take items of stock from the database. Then I have to print out the order and take it to my girlfriend who lives 40 miles away she packages the boxes up for me again because I cannot do it because of my RSI. We just throws a spanner in the works because it is a order which has not gone through the official order system. then generally by this time it's "Can I add something else onto the order to save postage" . all the postage calculations are done automatically by server scripts, doing this manually means I do not know how heavy a packages until I box it up and then have to work it out manually which again takes even more time. It is difficult to give people a postage price in advance of boxing it up. . Then as there is no official entry for the order in the database I have to manually create one so order tracking can be annually entered. Then I have to email this information to people, who probably don't check their emails anyway. then there is the problem as may get charged for the transaction which I then have to take into account. Overall this can drag on for several weeks. It just creates total chaos. So overall, no thanks. As I said earlier, the order system is automated. So everything happens instantly and efficiently. This helps to keep prices down in my store because there is no "human processing" required (other than physically boxing the items up and posting it). If there was all things to deal with as well, I would have to employ someone which would mean I would have to double the prices in my store cover all the costs. Q) CAN I CHANGE MY ORDER? Q) I CANNOT CHECKOUT? Q) DO YOU STORE MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION ?
************************* Q) CAN I PLACE ITEMS ON BACK ORDER ? Q) WHEN WILL OUT OF STOCK ITEMS BE BACK IN STOCK? Things which do not sell more than a couple of per year for example, I am less inclined to replace those stocks quickly.I also have constant battles obtaining parts for items so there can be any number of factors preventing items from appearing back in stock. Items do get discontinued if I am unable to secure stock or lack of interest in items.such information is always posted on the forum https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=90
************************ Q) DO YOU OFFER WARRANTY? Q) PRODUCTS SOLD IN STORE Q) DOES YOUR STORE USE COOKIES ? Q) WILL I GET CHARGED IMPORT TAX? There are sometimes posts on the forum relating to taxes and charges but this is only for guidance only and information could may well be outdated. https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=3693 Q) DO I GET SUPPORT ? Q) THINGS WHICH "DON'T WORK"
