Re: Falcon Restoration Project

...Also, the cartridge port doesn't seem to work. It boots to the desktop whether the diagnostic cartridge is inserted or not... Check 0.5A fuse. Thanks. It's good. The cartridge actually started working after a while. Possibly the C29 and C30 caps warming up. I've ordered replacements for those an...

Indeed. I was beginning to think it was a lost cause.

Thanks. I will do that and also review the rest of the mandatory fixes topic.

Re: Falcon Restoration Project

More progress: I fitted all of the remaining missing parts and I was able to get the Falcon to boot! However, just powering up results in a blank display - I have to reset at least once before the boot sequence works. I'm not sure what to think of that. Maybe the auto reset circuit is faulty? Any su...

Steve wrote: Mon Nov 13, 2023 7:36 pm @hunsra your monitor will tell you if it's not syncing, there's no point in guessing.
Thanks. That seems reasonable. It seems to be detecting the proper frequencies, so I think it's OK.

Re: Falcon Restoration Project

Well, without a clock nothing will happen, guaranteed. I agree. Have you checked for a clock signal on the CPU at all? a diagnostic cart won't mean a thing if the CPU has no clock signal. Check the basics first. stephen_usher and rubber_jonnie , thanks. Yes, I had checked the clock signal to the CP...

Re: Falcon Restoration Project

That's definitely good news. You've got basically basic RGB output from Videl. The most common state with black screens is getting "out of sync" on monitor and bye. Perhaps ROM and/or RAM is not getting its chance to do something further. You could try the diagnostic cartridge + serial ou...

Re: Falcon Restoration Project

Just wire over it, or replace with a low value resistor like 22R,33R,47R values. Thanks. I wired over it and I get video, but just black. No Atari logo, etc. The signal is 15.7Khz H, and 50.1Hz V, 712x242, which seems correct. So, progress. I'm going to probe the bus to see what's happening there.

Re: Falcon Restoration Project

Well, no clock = bad juju, so definitely a good place to start :) Also, no clock == no nothing. So far, all of the address lines I tested are high, but yes, L102 is missing. I probed on the oscillator side and it's coming out 32MHz, so I'll either bridge it as suggested or get a replacement. The I ...
