Re: Project: HDMI/DVI out for STFM

Thanks for the enthusiasm 😀 Eventually I will make a new revision of the board that gets rid of the PCB sandwich, and puts everything important on a single 4-layer PCB. The reason why that's "eventually" is basically I've temporarily run low on funds, and these things cost relatively a lot to put to...

Re: Project: HDMI/DVI out for STFM

Dunno what the STacy hardware is like, but they don't need a modulator - just a socketed shifter (to remove the shifter and plug in in its place).

Re: Project: HDMI/DVI out for STFM

Not much. Just the schmitt trigger for the 16MHz clock, the inline resistors on both sides of it, and the capacitor on the output. I got rid of the unneeded resistor pack footprints and moved the header for the ribbon cable. The reason I filed the corner down is because, on my ST at least, there's a...

Re: Project: HDMI/DVI out for STFM

I gather that I'd have to write some pretty advanced verilog to generate the audio packets. I haven't really looked into it all that much, better to get one thing working at a time.

Re: Project: HDMI/DVI out for STFM

Great to hear! Thanks for the update Icky.

Perhaps there is some relationship between the clock and the resetting behaviour after all. Interesting.

Now you can bask in that pure radioactive green colour with no analogue degredation 😊

Re: Project: HDMI/DVI out for STFM

I used 22pF on the new boards. It's been working fine for my machine. The best place to solder them in is underneath the 34-pin IDC cable pins - pin 1 being the clock, and any of the surrounding pins being ground. Speaking of the new boards, I have 3 built now (the shifter socket adapter boards, tha...

Re: Project: HDMI/DVI out for STFM

If you guys have got enough motivation left to do that, then that would be awesome. I suspect that the problem is in the machine rather than the DVI board, though. All the boards were tested on my machine before I sent them out, and Troed had the same problem with 2 different DVI boards. Hey, random...

Re: Project: HDMI/DVI out for STFM

This is kind of on hold at the moment - I need to get my hands on one of these machines with the resetting behavior.

Re: Project: HDMI/DVI out for STFM

As a mad idea, could you double the length of your ribbon cable on your board and try tests again ? Make sure PSU is at 5V or even 5.2V. It worked perfectly for at least ten minutes with a 10cm cable (no bad reads) - when I increased it to 12cm it wouldn't even boot up once. Crashes immediately wit...
