Re: Game recommendations please

I will try to list here some games which are considered as better on ST than on Amiga, or no Amiga v. Not in some particular order, but one surely stands out: Potsworth & Co. http://atari.8bitchip.info/ASTGA/P/potswco.php 6 games in one, good scroll ... OIDS http://atari.8bitchip.info/SCRSH/oids.htm...

Re: S-Video/composite board for Atari STs -- great for STFs

Stupid question, but what kind of cable to you use from the converter to your LCD. My LCD only has VGA, hdmi, and dvi. Also, is the cable from the atari to the converter custom. This adapter is not good for LCD monitors, only for older analog TVs and non-VGA monitors without RGB input. So, I guess ...

Re: List of planned upgrades.. Plus recasing....

I think AlanH was the one who mention this on AF. He said he surprised it worked, I never looked into it myself, just saying what was said there last year or so. Yep. Details are what is important here. I usually don't like to base something on what I saw somewhere. Maybe I just don't remember it w...

Re: List of planned upgrades.. Plus recasing....

TOS 1.04 is for address area $FC0000-$FEFFFF, while 1.06 , 1.62, 2.06 are for $E00000-$E3FFFF . So, no way that you put unmodded 1.04 in STE and it works. And you must perform some initializations of STE specific chips, otherwise may just freeze. I can test my improved 1.04 in Mega STE, but it's rea...

Re: List of planned upgrades.. Plus recasing....

Lot of ideas, what is nice, but you need to be aware that your STE is now very old, and packing lot of it on it may be too much for old machine. It it is really an STE, then it is not TOS 1.04 what you have but 1.06 or 1.62 . TOS switch is trivial thing. Harder part is content of TOS ROMs. 1.44 MB f...

Re: When is a ST not a ST anymore ?

Just one small correction: moving mouse causes slowdown, of course. But most of it is not in IKBD, ACIA, not even in interrupts generated - but in drawing and undrawing mouse cursor .

Re: When is a ST not a ST anymore ?

You will never see original documentation for Atari chips, and same stays for used Motorola and other chips. And you talk about incomplete emulation. What about incomplete and/or inaccurate reverse engineering of chips ? Because that's what we see and will see. The real problem here is that you need...

Re: When is a ST not a ST anymore ?

Calling some FPGA solution emulator is not exactly correct. Indeed, some parts are emulation - mostly screen, because it has output to modern displays, so not PAL/NTSC freq. But CPU is not emulated. That's even bad to hear. If you'd emulate 68000 like it is emulated by SW on PC, you would need min 1...

Re: Just got a crazy idea 'bulb'

So you'd need to have two 1Mbit SRAM chips, an MCU and the I2C Flash. .... There are 16-bit SRAM chips available too. And since it will be handled as ROM - read only, no problem that can not access low and high byte separately. MCU and I2C Flash ? Those are some concrete parts/solutions, I guess. T...
