Re: TOS startup sequence.

It's simple in fact. Negative value is 16-bit, and if you sub it from $10000 will get 16-bit positive value - what is in case of HW port always negative number (bit 15 is 1). You can use Windows calculator in programmer and hex mode for it. -$7FFF = $10000-$7FFF = $8001 - MMU config reg. Physical ad...

Re: TOS startup sequence.

Here is begin of TOS 1.04 (ST) , with some comments . TOS104SU.ZIP Can add more comments, just need some time and what is exactly of interest. It's not hard to follow once you get used on strange HW addressing at most places: suba.l a5,a5 lea -$7800(a5),a0 move.b #7,(a0) move.b #$C0,2(a0) move.b #$E...

Re: TOS startup sequence.

Actually, initial palette is set right after Vfreq. set, so nothing happens between those 2 :D Checked in TOS 1.04 and 2.06 .
It is all in very early stage, so many things will be set after it, before first screen output.

Re: 4mb STFM with accelerator - was there an equivalent way back when?

This talk about what SW was made first for which computer, OS is really pointless in my opinion. Good SW firm, programmers will make quality SW for any platform after some time. And this "Only when PC got ussable Windows GUI, only then software was ported to it. " is complete wrong. DOS SW was big b...

Re: TOS105 ROM

... would be cool to know what was changer in the AES. There is Line-F 'trick' used in TOS 1.00-1.04, and not used in 1.06 and later. The reason is insufficient ROM space of 192 KB for 1.00-4 . In case of 1.04 it's short for some 6 KB if normal subrutine calls are used. So they invented very short ...

Re: TOS105 ROM

TOS 1.04 is latest TOS v. for ST computers. 2.06 can work on them too, but that needs some extra HW logic + socket extender (32 pins instead 28). Plus 2.06 is not good with games. So, 1.04 is natural choice. There are no sources available for 1.04, 1.62 . But they are practically same - only that 1....

Re: TOS105 ROM

Normally, it will be sent with programmed EPROM chips, since most of people have no programmer. But can send image files too. Of course, that's for single user. Some details not covered on page about: Virtual Floppy needs specific hard disk driver code in ROM. So, user needs to specify his adapter t...

Re: Adapted games: what makes them incompatible at >16 MHz?

There is in some cases special screen displaying code used, to achieve more than 16 colors on ST(E) at once. That works not on Falcon, TT, of course - will get some mess normally. Stays for F1 GP intro too. Speed gain depends from many factors. In some cases code self limits framerate - what prevent...

Re: Atari SW programming: on real HW or in emul/debug. ?

Yes, Notepad is easy for use, and actually you can set what font to use. But it becomes slow with longer files - over 200 KB . I have some 800 KB long ASM sources. Funny how simple thing like inserting new line can take 3-4 seconds on 4 GHz machine  So, I use then rather Wordpad.
