Re: Just got a crazy idea 'bulb'

Of course serial EEPROM is not usable at all instead parallel ROM or RAM in some computer. It is good only for non-volatile data storage - of not much data. Main reason is not clock rate, how fast can read some value, but that it is not random access but serial. If you use clock of only 8 MHz, and h...

Re: When is a ST not a ST anymore ?

I don't think that nostalgia and soul are 2 things to even mention in same sentence. I really don't need to repeat and feel again my old experiences with old HW - like waiting 5 minutes that some SW load from tape. Or playing DJ with floppies. Not to mention that all it will cost more and more - to ...

Re: When is a ST not a ST anymore ?

PSU is straight case. Give proper voltages and enough current, with stability and low noise. But something like keyboard is not it - some PC keyboard uses different codes, different commands, probably even different serial protocol. So, needs to be translated, to make some HW adapter. What is actual...

Re: When is a ST not a ST anymore ?

Yeah, I guess there's something to that 'analog feeling'. I'd even say that more analog = more attention it gets. It's a very subjective observation but look how many accessories/addons are here for the 8-bits, STs and Falcon. Except the recent CT60e (which I'm hesitant to label as 'new') it's been...

Re: When is a ST not a ST anymore ?

I must disagree here. FPGA is just another step in chip manufacturing. It was always the same goal: to put more and more functions in 1 chip. In case of Atari ST family big leap was to put high integrated GSTMCU with lot of pins on motherboard. Later revisions include blitter too. Reasoning that in ...

...The other option is an ossc... https://www.videogameperfection.com/products/open-source-converter/ I've heard good things.. And the price has dropped a lot since I last looked... Re: Is it possible to generate a 16:9 picture out of Atari

No, I said that there is no AR related info in analog video signals. It is on monitor. And user - and latest is most important :D

Re: Is it possible to generate a 16:9 picture out of Atari

There is no general rule. And you asking about unspecified monitor, attached to some converter of questionable quality - which produces some really weird resolution(s). Look all possible settings, and if can set it, set. That's all.
