Re: STE video chip
I don't know if it was ever reported if the shifter has any wake-up modes or not ? but something is clearly changing when the machine is powered down and powered up again. It seems very hit and miss if the video is basically perfect or totally trashed. It is not thermal because the video was basica...

Re: STE video chip
As for the audio crackles. My machine at least, the additional ground wire seems to be enough to get things working with the F374. However without mass testing it is difficult to know if this will solve the problem for others or not. As it is a relatively easy fix to do, and the safest, I would cer...

Re: STE video chip
@fenarinarsa I'm not sure if this one has an simply locked up or not. The background lines are still but there is nothing happening on the DAC at all. If the lines are still then it's running, I know it may be a bit misleading :) If the program crashes/locks up, the background would be full red or ...

Re: STE video chip
@fenarinarsa could you tweak your program to output all 1s to the DMA audio ? It may help me see what the timings are better to work out how much time there is to latch data. Or actually alternate 1 and 0 might also he useful. Here you go. Note that I changed the blitter timings to fit the 50Hz fra...

Re: STE video chip
It is probably worth noting that the background raster pattern seems a lot more consistent and " diagonal" with the stable 588 shifter. That's interesting because it's really the simplest blitter loop you can do. And 68000/blitter timings are expected be the same on every STE! Maybe I can...

Re: STE video chip
C301712 is to be expected to cause problems, so why are you saying it doesn't fix anything ? I wondered if a C301712 in an STE instead of a MSTE would make things turn better :) You've got quite a lot of shifters... all from dead STEs? If so that would mean the faulty shifter is more frequent than ...

Re: STE video chip
Well, I've just tested the C301712 on my STE with my tool and I can also hear audio cracks. I guess putting it into my STE doesn't fix anything then.

Re: STE video chip
Thanks for pointing this out. If you have a simple audio program to use, then next time I have the STE connected up I can see if audio gets trashed. I would assume so. Here you go https://github.com/fenarinarsa/ste_dmatest/releases/ Tested on my Mega STE with the faulty C301712 and the audio cracks...

Re: STE video chip
Hello everyone, I ran into an issue that may or may not be related to your findings. Last month I released a VGA intro for Mega STE + ET4000 video card https://demozoo.org/productions/303160/ The sound is made of PCM audio data streamed from the hard drive. However I had many audio bugs (audio crack...

Re: Enhanced Blitter
As I've said many times already, extra features can be added, but the blitter is really the wrong place.. It needs to steal cycles from DMA or CPU etc., if a better MMU is developed, we could have new functions for screen copy and clearing blocks of ram fast.. With some minor patches to TOS, it cou...
