I really love it. I heard a lot of concerns about the electrical safety and checked mine thoroughly, but it was fine. Looks nice! Do need some heat shrink on the terminals inside tho. Yeah, shrink would definitely be better. I should've made the box a little bit longer for that to be practical. What you can't see is that I put some glue blobs on both sides of the pcb to keep it in place. So I'm not worried that it...

Probably the normal way is to just use a regulated 12V power supply, and use a internal 5V regulator.. I don't know much about external drives, but you may not even need 12V.. Only the really old drives generally need that voltage... I've always run my external drives just from a normal 5V brick PS...
