Re: Top of the pile

Back to it.... I got sidetracked fixing and modding some A500's. I bought an STe mainboard on a whim and its proved to be a bit of fun playing with it and that's peaked my interest again. I need a PSU and case bottom for it an she'll be back up and running after today's effort. I found an SM...

Re: R205 100 ohm resistor in SR98 starting to get hot and smell

No, I understand that. If you use a standard STe (or FM) PSU with low or no 12v load, what would be the impact of that?

R205 I'm just doing while I recap the PSU as its roasting.

Re: R205 100 ohm resistor in SR98 starting to get hot and smell

I did read some posts where you mentioned dummy loads on the Mongrel boards due to a lack of 12v on the floppy. I couldn't see that in your mandatory fixes though. I'll keep looking. Would that cause a PSU not to kick over? I'm going to dump a 5w resistor in R205 on my STe PSU. The current 3w one is...

Re: R205 100 ohm resistor in SR98 starting to get hot and smell

G'day, I've been reading, reading and more reading a bit about PSU's lately. And this thread popped up a few times. Couple of quick questions, if a modern floppy is used on an old PSU, can that cause issues? I'm starting to think it would cause some 12v drama and it might explain a few odd things I'...

Re: Mega ST2 psu failure

I wouldn't have thought it would be a bad joint on two PSU's. When the garage warms up a bit I will get in and have a closer look. ATM it is pretty cold in there. :D

Re: Mega ST2 psu failure

Without hijacking too much, PSU plugged in - no 5v, no fan spin. PSU unplugged 5v OK and fan spins (no tick). This happens on two PSU's and two Mega's, one PSU is recapped and had the rectifier bridge replaced, one not. If I plug in an STFM PSU - no problem, Mega's work fine. Just plain weird.

Re: Quadruple Your Internet Speed for Free..

My parents live in a small town in the bottom of New Zealand, they have a better internet connection and I am in metropolitan Melbourne. Unfortunately Australia is plagued by bad decisions and government controlled infrastructure. The house I was in 12 months ago had privately owned 100mbps cable. N...

Re: Mega ST2 psu failure

Does the PSU tick by any chance? I have a pair of Mega's with odd PSU faults, so I'm curious to know.

The 12v fan on mine won't kick over unless the PSU is disconnected.

Re: My new 130XE

I have a 130XE I am resurrecting - slowly, Antonia will probably be the next step. RGB would be nice, but with the 17" LCD I have svideo is more than good enough. However, if I ever hook one to my 75" HDMI will be a must.
