Re: Soldering iron recommendations

I got a KSGER-T12 as well. Although I had to use my old Weller to solder the power connector to the board since one of the solder point was loose/bad connection/cold solder/cracked when it arrived. After that it has worked perfectly. For the price it is really nice. You have to buy a holder for the ...

Re: When to turn the soldering iron off dilemma

I got scorched on my hot air gun trying to catch it mid air when it was plummeting to the floor. Caught it with my pinky finger and released it 1,457 sec later due the hotness of the tool. Reaction time contra reflexes is a facinating thing. I picked it up rather quickly since I got wooden floor and...

Re: Stuff and Things.

I have also seen the blue "stuff" on some boards. I always thought it was leftover from the solder mask process.

Re: Cable info to connect a Mega ST keyboard to a standard ST

It seems that my first post is a bit wrong. Tx should connect to Rx for it to work. And Rx to Tx. Would be great if you could confirm this and update us when you have tested the cable. So pin 5 on the Atari to pin 3 on the RJ12 (MegaST connector). Pin 6 on the Atari to pin 4 on the RJ12. Mega ST key...

You can get 10-packs of these from Mouser, Farnell or Digikey. It doesn't seem that they have them in stock though.

Re: DoG's Hx Mongrel build attempt

I finally got my dma fix boards from China. I soldered on the one and only chip but I haven't got any sockets or pinheaders at the moment so have to test this out later.

Re: exxos blog - random goings on

Why do all the sockets as ZIF? One must be enough (or two) for testing and then solder the rest directly to the board? When you have hundreds of chips to test, testing the same 15 chips over and over is a bit of a waste of time.. it would take me 15 longer to test them all. Yup, tedious work indeed...

Why do all the sockets as ZIF? One must be enough (or two) for testing and then solder the rest directly to the board? Maybe it is just quicker to test all the chips the same time and size doesn't really matter I suppose? You also need to have some type of support on the bottom.
