Re: Misinformation surrounding aca1233n

I suspect the main reason that he discourages this is that he offers 55mhz version for an extra hundred euros. Given it doesn't cost him any more to make than the 40mhz version, that's a lot of profit he'd miss out on if you do it yourself. He certainly doesn't have a problem with running parts out ...

Re: New video connector ?

For what it's worth, I'd like it to use a VGA connector and a simple rgb/mono toggle switch to mount somewhere on the back of the case. A thing I really don't like about UBE is it likes to switch modes on every reboot. And any fancy software mode switch is going to be a waste of time.

Re: competent repair people ?

You say repair work, but these aren't (obviously) falcon specialists. So how does that go, you diagnose it, write down a note saying replace this this and this, fix this broken trace here, and stick it all with the new parts in a box and hand it over? God I'd be a bag of nerves hoping it didn't go t...

Re: 4mb STFM with accelerator - was there an equivalent way back when?

I agree with that, that's how I saw it, at the end point 1995/96 the writing really was on the wall PC's were falling in price rapidly and the ST/Amiga were being left behind even with mega money in upgrades a top end 386 low end 486 was starting to leave everything else behind in performance. I ha...

Re: 4mb STFM with accelerator - was there an equivalent way back when?

Certainly for A1200 accelerators are all over the place. But remember in the times these machines were current (85-92) an 8 or 14Mhz processor really was enough, even if it wasn't impressive. Even at the end you were spending over £1000 for a monochrome 68000 mac. So where you see accelerators pop u...
