Re: Planned downtime

Also in case anyone is wondering, backups are done hourly anyway. This includes the entire SQL database and HTML folders. Which pretty much covers everything. The reason the server goes down is because I am literally backing up the whole diskand the server cannot be running while the disk is being ...

Thanks for the advice. If all goes well, they'll be in the mail tomorrow. I might post a picture of the final result.

Re: Monitor recapping and low ESR

Just for reference, this is where I'll end up. I shopped a commercial picture of the ceramic cap into the photo, maybe it's even smaller in reality:

Re: Monitor recapping and low ESR

What package ? 1206 or larger should be fine anyway. I've looked up the dimensions of a 1206 package and it's supposed to be 3.0 x 1.5 mm so the cap I found is even a little bit larger at 3.2 x 1.6 mm. Here's the spec sheet by the way, if you're interested: https://asset.conrad.com/media10/add/1602...

Tom
Yeah, I agree. These devices aren't going to run for that many hours anyway and better resiliency for the periods they will is much more important.

Re: Monitor recapping and low ESR

Thanks guys! I've done a quick search at a parts store and found 4.7 µF 50V 10% ceramic caps measuring only 1.6 x 3.2 x 1.6 mm (I know, SMT). I find it hard to believe that these even smaller caps will do. But sure, specs are specs, right? They only sell the SMT types, but I don't mind using those i...

Re: Monitor recapping and low ESR

Some caps "back in the day" were the size of coke cans, replacements like 5% of the size... bi-polar caps though ? Wonder why... I probably would have just stuck a polyester in it instead :) Today I came cross this post on Atari-Forum https://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4...

68000 support has landed in LLVM

Apparently, 68000 support has landed in LLVM. I'm not too informed about this but I guess this means we can finally expect modern C/C++ compiler based cross compilation in the near future for our beloved STs. Here's a link to the new 68K part in the LLVM source: https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/...

Re: Sell old machines

Apparently, Atari SA used to be the French division of Atari so this sounds like a big deal :D
