Even a busted one goes for £120
Often, yes, but I've picked up Ataris "for parts" for 50 or so. It's a roll of the dice, but in a couple of cases they just meant "untested", and the unit works perfectly well.

It's the TTs and Falcons and Jaguars (etc) that are really insane.

Re: C103999-001 REV. [2]

So, very oddly, I was considering buying just that. Like, precisely this motherboard. https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-ATARI-STACY-MOTHERBOARD-EXCELLENT/183773341510 I have no way to currently test it but as a curiosity at $100 I was willing to pick it up. Something feels weird about it, though; I wond...

Re: How would you rework/improve this STE?

One other minor update: I took the HD and hooked it up to a linux box via a 44-pin IDE to SATA adapter board I got off ebay for £4. Linux, fdisk, etc, refused to understand the partition table, but certainly saw the drive. So I used dd to image it to file. At the same time, I had also bought an SD c...

Re: Stumbled upon an Atari TT for sale ad

The ad is just for the monitor, right? Is there another ad coming for the TT itself? The ad is now different from what it was yesterday. My guess is that he just sold the TT and edited the ad to now offer the monitor only :| Damnit! I'm in Amsterdam, I'd have happily taken that off his hands!

Re: Stumbled upon an Atari TT for sale ad

This is not my ad and I don't know the guy but I figured that perhaps someone is looking for a TT + monitor. Since they're really rare and all... https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/computers-en-software/desktop-pc-s/m1368471647-atari-tt030-computer-en-ttm194-monitor.html?c=c8f4e03ae2528df01038ea9fdce7064...

Re: How would you rework/improve this STE?

As for the DMA audio, I'd suggest a strip down of the machine and check for dry solder joints in the area where you need to put pressure. So I stripped the machine right down, and tested while it was running with some DMA audio playing. The culprit seemed to be right under the PSU, where around whe...

Re: How would you rework/improve this STE?

A lot of the CF interfaces fail as they mostly all copy the same poor design which seriously violates all the timings. Its why we are working on a better IDE/CF interface for the ST which works properly with all CF cards. Okay, got it! Though I would suggest you look in the tweaks and fixes section...

Re: How would you rework/improve this STE?

BTW,it is my understanding that with CF cards, there can also be compatibility issues, so SD or CF, you may run into issues. I did use a CF card on my STE for a while, and had some issues getting one that was happy with my IDE interface, but eventually went to SD in my CosmosEx. I think mine is an ...

Re: How would you rework/improve this STE?

I'd probably start by doing a re cap of the PSU. It's a nice easy task and will ensure it runs well for years to come. EDIT - I just saw you'd got an exxos PSU board, get that puppy installed! I'm planning a move to the US within the next couple months, I think, and I'm holding off until I know for...
