Re: General Stuff(tm)

When I got the Apricot Xi out on the bench on Wednesday evening in anticipation of the arrival of the TexElec pads I found that the hard drive was finding it difficult to start spinning up. This morning, after getting back from work, I opened the machine up again and took a look. Knowing that previ...

Re: General Stuff(tm)

Apparently the post-person failed to deliver any post today as no-one was on our reception at five past two this afternoon. *sigh* P.S. Well, well. The receptionist says that she was at her desk at 2:05pm and was there without a break since 1:40pm. she's going to have stern words with the postie on...

Re: OSI 600D Superboard Build

I think the fuzzy video thing is due to the change in speed (and manufacturing process) between now and the 1970s. I wouldn't be surprised if it's that at all. Indeed, I'm surprised that the BoM didn't state a specific manufacturer's part as the timings differed so greatly back in the day. There ar...

Re: ATARi 1040STE keyboard vs standard 520/1040ST

Hi Guys, thank you for the inout and happy that some seems interchangeable. @exxos I am also very suspicious re the too white/off color keys on the 520ST, as they seem just wrong and at least 20 other keys are also in this wrong color. So as my 520 ST keyboard is different can, I just put in a keyb...

Re: OSI 600D Superboard Build

So here is the list of things that caused me problems during my build. Everybody will be different, and I'm happy to say I didn't have any shorts at all, but what I did have were some errors of my own making, and some that were baked in to the info I had in front of me. Clock circuit problem 1 - I u...

Re: OSI 600D Superboard Build

OK, so it's fixed. IMG20240328134336.jpg The solution? I replaced the 74LS04 at U21 with a 74S04. According to the build doc I have it should be an an LS, but as soon as I swapped it out, the problem went away. I then looked at other schematics and BoMs and all state an LS04. I tried a bunch of LS04...

Re: 12V needed for ST?

I usually use a VGA adapter for all my testing so the 12v for SCART isn't required Colour mode? Or perhaps you just have a different VGA adapter to me (exxos' reduced cost version)? Cheers all. BW Whilst I did recently get a VGA adaptor from exxos , I've not tried it with just a 5v setup, but I did...

Re: 12V needed for ST?

Aside from what has been said by the others, which is all good info, yes you can boot to desktop using just 5v.

I usually use a VGA adapter for all my testing so the 12v for SCART isn't required, though if I need to use the serial port for diagnostics I hook up the 12v too, as I have 2 bench PSUs.
