Re: STE " It's dead Jim"

Aw, damn shame it's still down.

Quick Q, have you tried to boot it with different RAM configurations i.e. swap around the SIMMs so you try different combos and only two at a time.

Re: Lead-free soldering

Still using lead based, mostly because I got a massive roll for free a few years back. About 370C seems to be the butter zone for me.

Re: STE " It's dead Jim"

MagneticFever, I can recommend these from exxos' store:

I replaced a broken reset switch with one of these and it was a 100% perfect fit.

Re: The Union Demo on gotek?

Thanks that's really helpful. I'm guessing that if I install an ST emulator on pc, that I can copy the prg file to a blank disc image and then transfer that to gotek? Likely to work? I've not tried the HxC options myself, all my Goteks are FlashFloppy, but I find it useful to have an emulator on ha...

Re: STE " It's dead Jim"

I'd also have a look at the sockets. I've run into a few problems with the PLCC sockets that are often used, as over time (30+ years!) the contacts tend to push out of the way, and when you get a bit of tarnish on the chip and socket contacts. So it's worth removing the chips from their sockets and ...

I have to come up with a better handle...?? I like Rubber_jonnie... You have to have lived in a UNIX would to put an under score in your name!! Funnily enough I lived for a very long time in DOS and then Windows, but it pre-dates even that, as it was my somewhat unsavoury nickname (I don'...

Re: 1040 STF showing occasional rogue pixels

Apparently, RAM access has fallen down to 50% of regular ST performance. On the upside, the rogue pixels don't show up anymore. But, I see the occasional flash in the bottom 20% of the screen in Metrocross. It's rather subtile, more like a few lines dim during a single frame. The dimmed area in the...

Yeah, I reckon so :)

I think we wrote our replies at almost the same time.
