Re: Rescuing an ancient 520ST

This is exactly how it looks when done by Atari so I'm pretty sure the RAM upgrade is original. I used to own a 520+ and here's another one that has it: https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=540 Reason I said so is that the resistors are usually not placed where these are, and whoe...

Re: Rescuing an ancient 520ST

wow, the electrons were sure in a hurry to get out of that chip! Didn't know there was a -38 Shifter ? I have 3 ST's here I never touched. Probably gonna just have to start selling some machines to clear up some space soon. The -20 is the oldest, then they made the -38, followed by the -38A. Ijor h...

Re: Will a TOS104 / TOS102 STFM KIT [0131] fit next to a 4,700 AXIAL CAP REPLACEMENT KIT [0090]?

I haven't done those two specifically, but I've switched out the original cap for a monster one (much larger, think it was a 4700uf 50V) and that fits with the exxos TOS board. It leans against it, and I've skewed it a bit. You could always do the same with the individual caps on the cap-board, just...

Rescuing an ancient 520ST

So here's my latest project. This 520ST was given to someone in the shape it is, without cables. When the new owner tried hooking it up to 5V to get it to boot up all he saw was sparks of electricity from the mainboard ... :) Since it has a -38 (not -38A) Shifter, and what I'm hoping for is a short-...

Re: PaulJ Progress

Guys, what are you on about. The UK is in the EU, at least until brexit. However, they're not part of the single currency euro zone - just like Sweden, Denmark, Poland etc.

Two separate things.

Good idea with the video board, I removed all of the black plastic spacers when I did mine.
I sanded down the plastics on mine and kept it on all rows. Was quite easy to line up the pins then ;)

Re: PaulJ Progress

The color gradient was interesting btw. If you got all the resistors in the right positions then there seems to be a general case of too much resistance on the RGB lines :)

Re: Lead-free soldering

I have some trust in Sparkfun btw, just saw that Electrokit is selling this: We don’t want to hype this solder TOO much, but this could possibly be the best solder in the world. There, we’ve said it. This is a special blend made specifically for us and we love it. It all started as a quest to find t...
