Re: When to turn the soldering iron off dilemma

I'm quite happy with my Ersa i-CON NANO. Auto-Sleep, heats up in 9sec, very light and surprisingly good thermal mass.

Re: Wait what... ?! lol

I used to do tape backups for the BBS where I used to work.. Used to take hours Current LTO Tapes are quite fast. We currently use LTO7 for backup, which does 300MB/sec! One tape the size of two packs of cigarettes can hold 6TB. Seek times are awful of course, but you can cope with that with your b...

Re: Share you're funny work stories or conversations..

Oh I can think of a few layer 8 problems.... some of my favorites: * A user who entered a couple of numbers in excel, then opened his drawer, took a calculator out to sum them up * A user complaining where the scrollbars of his explorer windows were. If I turn on sync-regeneration on my gscartsw, then I can get a picture, but it flickers and is a bit garbled. Do the 1040STE's put out some sort of weird signal? What do I need to do to make it play nice with my framemeister? Did you try taking out the Scart-Switch and connecting directly? I check...

Re: UBUNTU old repos ?

Yeah, but copying content is so much less fun than playing with docker ;) But yes, you're right. Besides having it run in a container will still give you a server with ancient versions. Only that a breach would be more or less contained. And regarding to paying for servers ... just give me a shout, ...

Re: UBUNTU old repos ?

No promises, but I could try putting the AMN Site in a docker container, if you want. Need some practice with that anyway ;)

Re: UBUNTU old repos ?

Nope, wouldn't do that either.

But what I would do is start getting into containers, and thus finding a way to compartmentalize all my services and give them the environment that they want. Granted, a lot of work still.

Re: exxos blog - random goings on

Nod, saw that. Just noting that your stats as they currently are don't look particularly representative. :) I would not expect it to be. Measuring errors aside, we are talking about people that do not only collect old computers, but are interested in new hardware for them. That is a really small ni...
