I recently soldered in the exxos RTC without socket, isolated the shielding in that area with two layers of duct-tape (so a quite thin isolation) and still got a little print in the tape from the lower edge of the plus-spring of the battery-holder! :o It surely will get shorted without that tape. It actually is possible to remove the cover as a whole.
At least if you desolder the chip before and put a screwdriver from the bottom between the cover and the chip.

Hi, yes, RAM-extension to 1MB (which I did not built in myself), then TOS-eproms with switchable (left switch) TOS 1.0 and KAOS-TOS and six new sockets for them.
