Speed comparison TT (was: The "perfect" TT?)
And what software you would run on PC in 1991.? :D The question here was how much performance you get per $$$. And the TT would’ve been good in 1989, but not in 1991 any longer. There were many comparison reviews in magazines of Amiga 3000, TT and some Mac back in 90s. (I could search and scan it i...

Re: The "perfect" TT?
You have to remember that when the TT was on the market 32MHz was considered a high clock speed. High end PCs at the time (costing a lot more than the TT) had only just got the 80486 processor running at 33MHz. Sun UNIX workstations, costing close to 10 times the price of the TT were either 32MHz 6...

Re: Falcon hardware on a ST.
But I was thinking more of not doing DMA at all and offloading the data onto the DSP SRAM like can be done on Falcon. Of course I never use DSP myself so no idea software side of how it all works or exactly what the SRAM is for. Okay, if I get you right, you basically don’t want a coprocessor (in t...

Re: Falcon hardware on a ST.
There is of course DSP in Falcon, can play tracker tunes using it easily, maybe MP3 even... So thought of placing DSP into ST design.. but what else would be needed.. I mean if a simple Falcon program like "bob tracker" (think it used DSP can't remember) Thought being , aside from TOS404 which prob...

Re: Really crazy idea ...
So maybe, just maybe, it would be possible to somehow connect a PCIe Graphics Card to the Atari, maybe over the DMA-Port? The serial ports of the ST only do 19200bps, that would be too slow for use, but the DMA-Port can do well over 1 MB/s, that might be enough to run a framebuffer at relatively lo...

Re: MSTE vs STE TOS206
Out of curiosity I benchmarked Magic and NVDI on the MSTE https://s22.postimg.cc/91s9x1xzl/IMAG0597.jpg I'd read on atari-forum that it was faster than pure TOS. After a result like this I uninstalled it immediately. Why, what’s wrong? MagiC+NVDI are of course way faster than TOS 2.06, especially w...
