History of Notator Logic - Malcolm Ramage

The humble Commodore 64 was the machine that was the initial home of Cubase, as we found out last time. However Cubase was not the only one of the well known established sequencers that can trace its heratige back to this machine, Logic Apple's flagship sequencer can also trace its roots back to the...

Re: ST SHIFTER operation ?

Working it out like this.. (planer)...........(chunky) Word 1 16px, or 2 pixels Word 2 16px, or 2 pixels Word 3 16px, or 2 pixels Word 4 16px, or 2 pixels. So same MMU speed could only output 8 pixels per 4 word load.. So double MMU speed would be needed to gain back 16 pixels... So we could have I ...

Re: ST SHIFTER operation ?

Back to new video mode thoughts... Please can someone check my workings out.. We have 320 pixels in blocks of 16 pixels, so 320 /16 = 20 words x 4 bit planes = 80 words per line Normally. Or 160 words double clocked. 80 words into 320 pixels would be, 4 pixels per word, or 2 pixels per byte. (thinki...

Re: ST SHIFTER operation ?

Got this reply from someone on Altera forum.. With an FPGA/CPLD, you're not implementing a component, like an old TI part, in the device. You are creating buffers and logic that are implemented using device resources. So if you have 4 buffers in a design, logic resources for 4 buffers will be implem...

Re: Hi from France

I'm frost of sector one. I'm credited for some code in three demos by Dune+Sector One. I did a break regarding Atari stuff some years and I'm regularly trying to catch up but I always end having too much work to have faith to stay behind a computer for fun stuff. I know how to solder and I'm now tr...

Re: ST SHIFTER operation ?

Well ... if you're redesigning the Shifter then 32MHz MMU can feed 320*200*256 ... :) The question then becomes whether to hardcode a 256 color chunky byte mode (preferable, I think) or find space for 256 palette registers :) Which uses less bytes for 256 colours, bit planes or chunky ? Could be st...

... or you could use the extra bits to support 65536 colors similar to how the infamous dual shifter mod mentioned in another thread supports 32768 ;)
True :) I don't think extending the colours more going to be that useful as we are still limited to 16 on screen anyway :)

NEC MultiSync EA190M

Bought myself one of these cheap second-hand as I needed a high-res monitor... Out of the box, the default settings are pretty awful. You can see clearly there is scaling issues... IMG_1928.jpg The only way to fix this is to manually alter the horizontal width.. IMG_1934.jpg You can see the banding ...
