Re: 800xl power supply - how to open?

Ok I'll answer my own question in case it helps someone else. The PSU is potted (encased in resin), so the base of the casing has posts on it that are embedded in the resin. I used a chisel to break those off from the inside and then by soaking the main PSU in boiling water several times and applyin...

800xl power supply - how to open?

Got a power supply for my 800xl. It's an original Atari one but seems to put out 0v on all pins. I want to open the case up but there are no visible screws. I wondered if anyone had some insight into how to open it with minimal damage? I suspect I'll replace the insides with a usb charger, but would...

Re: Gotek as an external floppy drive

I dropped a Gotek into a Datel external drive enclosure and had noproblems. That particular enclosure has no internal electronics other than a power regulator and the 14 pin DIN plug goes straight to a 34 pin floppy connector. Which reminds me I need to finish off my wiring diagram and post it on h...

Gotek as an external floppy drive

Currently my gotek is replacing the internal floppy drive on my stfm because my machine had the original drive missing when I bought it. I recently acquired an original floppy drive so want to put that back in the machine and make the gotek external. Questions I have: 1. Can I make the gotek into an...

Tidying up a 3d printed case

I've just bought a SDrive Max for my 800xl. The case is an XL style case that's been 3d printed. It's fine from a distance but a bit rough and could really do with smoothing some rough edges and maybe even filling and painting to remove some imperfections. Before I start doing that, I just wanted to...

Re: SIO2SD Vs Sdrive Max?

Thanks - I've just ordered one in an XL style case (£31 plus £4 postage can't go wrong really) Still need to decide whether to keep it in its own case or integrate it into the Atari 1010 tape player case. Will see once it arrives I think. Even though my 1010 tape drive is quite beaten up, I don't l...

SIO2SD Vs Sdrive Max?

Hi all Anyone know what the advantages and disadvantages between these 2 devices are? The sdrive seems to be considerably cheaper (30ish quid versus 50 or more), but the sio2sd seems smaller which will be advantageous as I want to build it into my 1010 tape player whilst still having it work as a ta...

800XL project

So I visited Phil C the other day (hi Phil!) and traded him for an 800xl project. This computer was my first computer back in the early 80s and I have a real soft spot for it. As I progress with the restoration, I'll post updates here, but for now here's a picture of what I've got and a link to my b...
