Re: How to: recapping the Mega STe power supply

OK, I've taken a look at it and this is what I've found out. 1) my board has neither a -001 nor -002 designation but "Rev A1", specifically this is what it says on the PCB: PHIHONG PSM-5341 29203-102A REV- A1 It does however have a centre screw, so I assume it's a -001 version, or a derivative of it...

Re: How to: recapping the Mega STe power supply

See my previous post - Exxos was so kind to edit the picture to correct C14 but you can still add the mention about the central screw. Your picture (and I assume the physical PSU, too) still has it, it shouldn't be there. Thanks, Exxos for editing the C14 polarity! I compared the photo in the first...

Re: How to: recapping the Mega STe power supply

I just logged after getting an email alert about a new posting here! Yup, have been clogged down with other things and haven't had the time to pop into here for a while. I'll need to re-read the thread to catch up, but what exactly needs updating/fixing in the thread (sorry for the clueless question...

Re: How to: recapping the Mega STe power supply

I went inside my machine to swap the fan polarity, to see if it was exhausting the air in the right direction. Now I have no power, doesn't turn on at all. Not sure what to do :( Measured the voltages and they fluctuate between 0-1v. To try this you could have flipped the fan the other way round wh...

Re: How to: recapping the Mega STe power supply

I've gone back in this thread and updated the images. Possible we could clean up this thread in the future ? The image looks OK to me now. GND is in effect the positive, because its at a higher potential than negative (-12v). Thanks for confirming. So the fan "+" and "-" labelling on the PCB refers...

Red Wire from the Fan to GND
Black Wire from Fan to -12V
OK. I think I've finally got it now ;)

Re: How to: recapping the Mega STe power supply

Pacman your image is still wrong. It's not -12 and +12, its GND and -12. Which means no matter what, the fan will run backwards if you connect red/positive to -12. It's been a while and I don't have my MegaSTe nearby to meter the connector, but does this look right? The power supply PCB labelling i...

Just wondering if after all these posts on capacitors, Pacman should change name to Capman :D
Not a bad suggestion actually :D

Re: How to: recapping the Mega STe power supply

Thanks for confirming, Exxos. Here's the corrected pinout. I'll also replace the pinout diagram in my original posting along with all the instructions to avoid any confusion ( Oops: that didn't work -there's no "edit post" button there any longer. Any chance you could replace the diagram in the firs...

Re: How to: recapping the Mega STe power supply

Replacing the (noisy) cooling fan The Noctua fan has a 3-pin female connector attached but there is no need to cut it off and replace it with the original 2-pin connector. Just make sure only the two leftmost pins (black and red wires) attaches to the Mega STe power supply. The yellow wire isn't us...
