Re: Choosing between three Sony MPF-920 drives
A silly question..... how/where do I check write protect?
Is that a high (2V-5V) and low (0-0.8V) signal to check at some particular pin with a voltmeter/multimeter?

Re: Discharging capacitors, PSU-testing with dummy loads
Thanks for confirming. The pinout should be correct.
I've just posted the "how to" here. I hope someone finds it useful.

How to: recapping the Mega STe power supply
I recently decided to replace all the electrolytic capacitors (recap) in my Mega STe power supply (Phihong PSM-5341) as a safety measure, considering it's close to 30 years old a "ticking time bomb". Better to replace before everything goes wrong than after! NOTE : the Atari TT also uses the same po...

Re: Discharging capacitors, PSU-testing with dummy loads
Thanks. I found some suitable ones: 2.2 Ohms/17 W high power resistor (1 pcs) TE connectivity 2.2 Ohms/6.1V/17W/10% SBCHE152R2K and 10 Ohms/17W high power resistor ( 1 pcs ) TE connectivity 10 Ohms/13V/17W/5% SBCHE1510RJ .... if they're not buying your dummy load resistor kit. i'm almost done writin...

Re: Discharging capacitors, PSU-testing with dummy loads
We all have our own perspective on things, and the great thing about these forums is that we can all share what we know. I'm in the midst of writing it now and will link to several of your postings which I think will, in total, give a more complete picture of what it's all about :) One quick questio...

Re: Discharging capacitors, PSU-testing with dummy loads
Thanks!
Yes indeed, maintaining and looking after these dinosaurs sure has its rewards ...sooner or later!
You've already done several very nice guides, so this will be more of a "practical" guide on how I recapped the PSU, not explaining how it works etc.
I'll try to get it done sometime soon.

Re: Choosing between three Sony MPF-920 drives
I've just tried it (soldering a wire across the two CTIN switch pins) and just as I expected it works a whole lot better now: So now, when I exchange floppies, then open up a new window showing its content, the drive is forced to spin up and re-read the floppy (instead of displaying the content from...

Re: Discharging capacitors, PSU-testing with dummy loads
A quick report as to what happened after recapping the Mega STe PSU... Using the dummy load resistors I quickly checked for each output rail and they were fine. Approx. the same values as before if I recall correctly, so I attached it to the computer and what do you know, the display output looked a...

Re: Choosing between three Sony MPF-920 drives
I'm assuming you soldered the pad on the V6 module to enable media change detect ? Aha! I think I understand: you designed the V6 module's logic specifically for the MPF-920, so together they work as expected and there's no need to short the disk detect switch. But when the drive is used with other...
