Re: My Falcon went to black screen

Yes, asking Rodolphe for an advice is a good idea. In fact, we had diagnosed one Falcon fault exactly like that. :)

Re: My Falcon went to black screen

I'm nowhere as skilled as Exxos and others but before you get into the nasty job of replacing ICs, I would still open up the schematics and went from the beginning - if you are confident that BERR, HALT and friends are OK, then yes, check connections for data and address bus, control signals, cold j...

Re: My Falcon went to black screen

Sety: no, he does have the cart but without any output on serial.

However now I'm reading the diagnostic flowchart, I think Christophe has made a mistake - he didn't follow the "B" chart but "C" instead. And "B" indeed recommends to check whether 030 is halted.

Re: My Falcon went to black screen

I'm not 100% sure, maybe someone can check.. But I think the Falcon boots firstly into 8MHz mode and switches into 16MHz later on. That is correct. Actually this is a good hint what is going on - no 8 -> 16 MHz switch, no RS232 but still Combel seems to be producing the correct clocks. So this perh...

Re: My Falcon went to black screen

TOS404 in my Falcon will not boot without NVRAM fitted. Well this is embarrassing... I've been telling everyone it will, but I was too lazy to remove ct60 when I tested it. I just tested mine without ct60 fitted and it won't! Interestingly, Centurion has made a similar statement but with dif...

Re: My Falcon went to black screen

Another question: could you confirm that if Dallas is out of order, the Falcon would boot (with english keyboard, time been reset, etc.)? Defect DALLAS IC can cause all sorts of crazy issues, absolutely don't trust it! However: if you have TOS 4.04, it can boot without DALLAS nicely. TOS 4.01 and 4...

Re: My Falcon went to black screen

Also, you may want to check Falcon Service Guide on https://docs.dev-docs.org, there's a nice trouble-shooting guide.

Re: My Falcon went to black screen

On a brighter note... R. Czuba is certainly approachable, I'm in contact with him every now and then. Not sure what "firm" you are referring to but he is perfectly reachable on his decade old email address available at his website: http://powerphenix.com ... he is busy but maybe it's not impossible ...

Re: Moving objects with incremental slowdown..

Yup, just use a 1D array of some nice function (can be sin, cos, log, whatever you prefer/looks nice but sin is probably the easiest way). So the first effect is easy, start at sin(90) = 1 and decrement the angle (index) to 0 (or increment to 180, same thing) which will produce smaller numbers (incr...
