You could try a higher value in series with pin 38 I think it was... 500R or even 1k.. Not much else to try really..
Tried 500R and it doesn't see drives at all just stuck on white screen

Good spot - Just traced this through on the schematics STF remake and STFM.

On the STFM RD goes through a buffer to 68901 SI pin.

SI pin is already going to the MAX238 pin 6 on the remake.

It can also be where you have grounded the scope.. assuming you are on a gnd point very close to the DMA.. Also try on x10 probe... Sometimes a probe itself can appear to give you things which are not actually there... It is also worth probing every pin of the DMA to see if anything looks odd... Th...

I was just scoping the RDY line on the DMA and noticed the undershoot like in your BAD DMA MYTH http://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/last/DMAfix/. It can also be where you have grounded the scope.. assuming you are on a gnd point very close to the DMA.. Also try on x10 probe... Sometimes a probe itself...
