Re: Sidequest: VGA scan doubler

Ah crap :( Yeah parts are getting really hard to find these past few weeks :( Not sure if myself or @Icky might have brought some of these at some point ? It's not a deal-breaking problem because I can always just continue with the existing design until then. I'm assuming it's the COVID effect whic...

Re: Sidequest: VGA scan doubler

Just a random thought for the day. Due to the high price of SRAM, I'd like to go in this direction in the future and just have a MAX 10 device instead of the MAX V and two SRAMs. It works out to be slightly cheaper, and a little simpler (as long as you don't count the utterly ridiculous amount of by...

Re: Sidequest: VGA scan doubler

I know right! Yeah all the components are on the top side (apart from the through-hole IC socket pins) and it's a two-layer board. The bottom layer is mostly ground.

Re: Sidequest: VGA scan doubler

Hello again, My soldering oven worked! I made up the first prototype from design v0.4 today. This one incorporates the cut-out hole for the capacitor, plus pull-ups on IO lines recommended by exxos . Soldering with an oven and a proper stainless-steel stencil went much faster than doing it with a sy...

Re: Storage options for ACSI port

Yes, hoping that you @Smonson manage to succeed with this! Keep hearing of lots of people finding issues with US, so not prepared to risk the asking price...but a future cheaper option would be nice! Especially if/when my mechanical SCSI drives finally give up the ghost... :? It's working quite wel...

Re: Storage options for ACSI port

I've been making my own SD card storage solution from scratch. I couldn't afford an UltraSatan. Unlike the ACSI2STM project - which bit-bangs data onto the lines under software control - I've got a cheap CPLD to handle the specific timing requirements of ACSI, so it should be 100% reliable (I hope).

Re: Smonson's poorly-thought-out toaster oven reflow experiments

OK, I got a "low mass" thermocouple and the response time is very good now. I've put everything together and covered the whole inside with heat-reflecting tape. I did a quick "manual" test with some random blobs of solder on old PCBs and it seems to work pretty well! Now I just h...

Re: Smonson's poorly-thought-out toaster oven reflow experiments

I've got this all together now, hardware-wise. 167768497_10159505512820850_2519704344616466622_n.jpg 166395819_10159505512870850_7337852905344548918_n.jpg There is a fly in the ointment however. After some initial testing it seems that the heat from the heating elements takes about 120 seconds to be...
