Ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present the most important update in the history of maprom!
This OCD inducing monstrosity:
Now looks like this:
We can all sleep well at night now!

Re: TF536 - Atari firmware - Rev2 TF536
Yeah, this wouldn’t be a CPLD thing, more a MAPROM software assist using the translation table. e.g. trap writes to the DMA addresses, analyse the configuration of the DMA and determine the ST-RAM addresses into which the data is to be transferred. Then set up the translation table to trigger if an...

Re: TF536 - Atari firmware - Rev2 TF536
Surely the way around this is to trap access to the DMA hardware and trace through the code to work out the address range and stop caching that range. I think there's many ways to skin this particular cat when it comes to implementation, but when going with trapping hardware access then yes you wil...

Re: TF536 - Atari firmware - Rev2 TF536
Most of my firmwares will respond on F20000 to F9FFFF as well (that's the Flash ROM map) and that may be safer, but I'd hate to tell you something now that I change completely next firmware! No big deal if something changes that breaks it either, worst case the name is wrong but that's only ...

Re: TF536 - Atari firmware - Rev2 TF536
Very nice! :) But why are you using an interrupt routine to copy the data? Can't you just write to fast RAM on the fly? Or you don't have enough CPLD resources to implement that? Thanks! It's really cool to see that it's working. Especially knowing what goes on in the background :) There is certain...

Re: TF536 - Atari firmware - Rev2 TF536
Latest firmware with the L2 stuff: tf536_2022_07_27_ATARI_alpha.zip Also support tools: maprom_220727.zip (or on github: https://github.com/agranlund/tftools ) These are new re-implementations of fastram.prg and maprom.prg and they are meant to completely replace the old versions from now on. I'm no...

Re: TF536 - Atari firmware - Rev2 TF536
Maybe games like Xenon with a scrolling background which is always changing may not show much speed improvement. Only a guess of course. Yep, if everything changes all the time then it'll end up more expensive trying to be clever about what to write. I don't know about you.. maybe I'm getting old b...

Re: exxos blog - random goings on
I didn’t think I was a cat person but had to cave in and get one for catching and keeping mice away (i live in a forest) They are amazing little creatures and I’m so glad we got the cat :) I think she thinks she’s a dog though.. if she’s home and around when I go walk with the dogs she always comes ...
