Re: Sharing one "activity" LED for two HDDs (Mega STE)
After some rust-removal it looks a whole lot better now: 20210420-193253_P4200021.jpg Unfortunately there's not enough room between the metal frame and the LED-diffuser to fit two LEDs side by side. It seems I either have to mount a couple of LEDs sideways (not ideal to the lighting angle) or insert...

Re: Sharing one "activity" LED for two HDDs (Mega STE)
Yes, I love simple solutions and appreciate your suggestion!
If the lighting is sufficient that way I'm all for it as electrically that would be the least time consuming. And a lot can be done with heat shrinking tubes, a rubber grommet and possibly some hot glue as well.

Re: Sharing one "activity" LED for two HDDs (Mega STE)
There's a hint in the name of PVC (poly-vinyl chloride) as to why when it breaks down it releases HCl... :-) Ah! Yes of course! Whether it breaks down very much depends upon the precise chemistry used to make it, such as the polymeriser (the chemical compound used to cross link the vinyl chlo...

Re: Sharing one "activity" LED for two HDDs (Mega STE)
Remove the remains of that original PVC gromet, clean the steel up, paint the area so it doesn't rush any further and fit a 3mm PVC gromet (6mm external) into which you can press the LED. Good idea to clean up the steel. I thought it was strange to see all the rust there when there was none on the ...

Re: Sharing one "activity" LED for two HDDs (Mega STE)
A 3mm dual colour LED would do what you want. They have three leads, one for the each colour and a return. Simple enough to wire. Re: Sharing one "activity" LED for two HDDs (Mega STE)
Having asked around for solutions to this several places and seeing it's going to be complicated I'm starting to look into using two separate LEDs instead: one for each drive (SCSI HDD and MonSTer-attached CF card). There's a 3mm LED in the MSTE hard drive bay mounted on a metal lug with a hole that...

Re: Mega STe 1.44 floppy behaviour and 1772/AJAX
I believe you're right.
There's no jumper here for the FPU GAL either, like yours.
I didn't know the MSTE was ever supplied with HD floppy drives and AJAX controller chips as a factory installation!

Re: Mega STe 1.44 floppy behaviour and 1772/AJAX
Out of curiosity what revision mainboard do you have? If it's B or later then the jumper wire between the GAL (PAL) and the CPU isn't required according to the 1.44MB upgrade manual from Atari. I desoldered the wire and checked for continuity between the same pins -there was none, so I assume my &q...

Re: Sharing one "activity" LED for two HDDs (Mega STE)
You could potentially add a diode on each line so that one drive doesn't try to power the other, but this will introduce a voltage drop and hence dimmer LED when just one drive is being accessed. I'd rather not have that. How about that bi-polar LED I found which lights green, and when the polarity...

Sharing one "activity" LED for two HDDs (Mega STE)
I've got a Mega STe with both an internal SCSI hard drive and a CF-IDE adapter (attached to a MonSTer board). Would it be possible to have a single LED (as the factory installed one in the front of the hard disk section of the case) for both drives without too much hassle? I'm thinking an LED with 3...
