Re: STFM case remake

I've ordered a 3D printed case from ireland to see what the quality is like. At least with 3D printing changes can be made easily to the case. Cost is still a lot, costing around £450 to prototype this  Cost me around the same to get the 3D files created, so totaled £1,000 easily so far :( I ...

Re: STFM case remake

@Maeke : I see. I was thinking of DIY laser cutter like these : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1780556 Cutting acrylic with this could be a problem as it's fully open and will refract the laser light. But yes Chinese ones are cheap-ish and fully closed. Rodolpje That's not what i meant when i ta...

Re: STFM case remake

A "kit" form case would be a much cheaper option yes, but I'm talking of total accurate clone of the case. If people wanted a kit type case, then they could do it themselves. So you want to take a block of "plastic" and CNC it to the exact STFM/STE case specs ? I'm not against i...

Re: STFM case remake

@Maeke, yes the diy route is probably the cheapest one. To cut 2 to 3mm acrylic you need a CO2 laser with about 40W of power. Also as we're talking about thin sheet of wood or acrylic, a CNC can also be used to cut the parts, cheaper than a laser cuter and less dangerous (think about fire, laser re...

Re: STFM case remake

I pointed that out too a while ago (may be not in this thread), but diy laser cut acrylic (or wood, or ...) is cheap. The main cost is the laser cuter. An acrylic sheet of 508 x 812.8 * 2.4 mm is $19 (50.8cm x 81.28cm x 2.4mm) There are a lot of example for these for the Raspberry Pi. Of course for...

Not looked into it, but assume it would be more expensive than SLA printing.
Not if we just share the files and guys having a lasercutter make it themselves.
This way you just have to sell the idea.

Re: STFM case remake

Main problem is rear of the cases are all different. I did talk about having it removable for various machines before.. but main problem is still cost, £300+ for a print. Where I am not sure on quality. End product would likely cost £500 per case with shipping included. I hate to say it, but I thin...

Re: STFM case remake

I can get a silicon cast made for injection molding, but its limited to about 10 cases, but still would end up around £300-£500 per case anyway. If a steel mold was made, the price per case is a lot more reasonable. But then its limited to just one case, ST, STF, STE, which one gets done ? I am sti...
