Re: Sidequest: VGA scan doubler

This is fantastic work, thanks for the link @Smonson. If you ever get to the point that you're considering getting a batch made I'd be more than happy to pre-order one! Thanks! Yeah Christmas is a time of broke-ness but I'm going to do a new prototype soon - within the next couple of months - with ...

Fantastic achievement, @exxos! This will mean a lot to the community.

It looks like registering for an account isn't available at the moment (the "create account" link is not there) so I will check back in again soon to make an account.

Re: Sidequest: VGA scan doubler

Actually I just compared this one that I used (UP5K) with the HK1K family, and it's waaaaaay faster. 32ns vs 12ns maximum delay (30MHz vs 80MHz). It's cheaper, but with the downside of being five times the board area. Probably a worthwhile trade-off because faster propagation equals better picture q...

Re: Sidequest: VGA scan doubler

Added displaying an image on boot. It stays on the screen for five seconds and then disappears. This is pushing the limits of how fast this chip can go unfortunately, so I might struggle to keep this in the build depending on whether I can squeeze a little bit of extra propagation delay out of it. T...

Re: exxos's linux mint install blog

You really don't want to dual-boot on the same drive as Windows, literally begging for trouble. I can't second this advice enough. A Windows 10 routine update decided it needed to resize my windows partition and deleted ALL other partitions on my machine not too long ago... Fortunately, I was able ...

Re: Fuse blows every time I turn on the Atari

How is it measured? Hi Roberto, a bridge rectifier is nothing more than 4 diodes in a square shape. You can measure it with your multimeter on "diode" mode by checking pairs of pins like so: br.png You will be able to find the markings in red near the pins in question. Good luck with the ...

Re: Sidequest: VGA scan doubler

Great work @Smonson. That FPGA looks pretty easy to solder. Thanks Icky , DoG , Steve , and PhilC :) The main thing I don't like about that QFN is that it has a "pin 49" directly on the bottom (covering the whole thing). My concern was that if there was too little solder in there it would...

Re: Sidequest: VGA scan doubler

Just reporting progress on this task... I received my boards from Seeed during the week, and made one of them up over this weekend. Managed to stick the FPGA on the board without too much trouble (surprisingly) ice40-soldered.jpg The finished board is a little smaller than the previous revision of t...

This is awesome!
exxos wrote: Mon Apr 03, 2023 1:32 pm I also had the idea to put the 4MB RAM adapter connector on the DAC board.
When I saw that in the pic my mind raced to the possibility that you had solved the problem of how to connect up a VGA socket on the end of an FPC cable.
