Re: Hard disk driver update plan

Thanx for this correction. Still, most of people using older versions, so I guess that I was at least partially correct. And there are driver tools for overriding this limitation in all Win. versions since XP, up to 10 - although in latest it has some smaller issues when removing media. And, when Wi...

Hard disk driver update plan

TOS/DOS compatible partitioning is pretty much useful and makes data transfer with some modern computer + OS very easy - of course mostly in case of Flash cards. There is only 1 downside with it, as I know: in case of IDE, so CF cards too, there is need for byte swapping to be DOS compatible. And th...

Forgotten SW project

This one, from 2011 just was never published, and missing from this page: http://atari.8bitchip.info/STEbap.html I just spotted on it during my recent nightmare discussion with Hatari developers about sound errors in it. SW is regular format WAV player for STE - WAV format same as audio CD format, s...

Me, myself and I :-)

I actually don't like this introducing of self thing. Best introducing should be work of people. But, because of some really bad things happened and still happening at AF, I will write now little more personal introducing. I'm old dog. Bought Sinclair Spectrum in 1983 and started to code, mostly in ...

Re: exxos & PP hard drive project.

Every solution has it's good and bad sides. With PLD is best to go on 16-bit variant for sure. Internal can be problem for many users. With PIO delays are not big problem - there is only 2 gate delay used. With DMA you need accurate delays on couple places. What we need most is delaying disappearanc...

Re: exxos & PP hard drive project.

That IDE adapter for Spectrum uses actually reversed byte order in case of read and write - that made it little simpler. Of course, byte order swap then must be done in SW - so write is slower. May get GAL file here: http://zx48.8bitchip.info/zx.php May see too, how simple is adapter for CF in 8-bit...

Re: exxos & PP hard drive project.

There is no Hi/Lo select line. When you write parameters, commands to IDE it is all only 8-bit, upper 8 is unused. Only by data transfer all 16 bits are used. Of course, if using 8-bit mode, then even in data transfer only low 8-bits are used. On Atari byte order is opposite, but that changes nothin...

Re: exxos & PP hard drive project.

I already did 16-8 bit translations in 1992 - for Sinclair Spectrum IDE adapter. That was with 1 GAL + some latches, line transceviers. Schematic is at 8bitchip.info . Since DMA in Atari works at fixed clock (8 MHz) it should be not hard to do that conversion - there is enough time for it. Without a...

Re: exxos & PP hard drive project.

As may see, this is very old project actually. I need to add here some things, because there are some serious limitations with really usable cards, especially for fast mode. Before some people starting to have to big expectations. All it started when I looked some Atari hard disk adapter speed tests...
