It depends on the way you disable the check, and what kind of check you need to disable.

If it works by just manually installing the .inf this is absolutely preferable to disabling anything, even if it is for a moment.

Isn't it possible to detect if you have a PAL or an NTSC Amiga?
That way you could run one set or the other.

Would'n hot glue be a better alternative, it would be less destructive than superglue, and you could replace the simms if needed.

You talked about the positive side of C409, but the only use would be the negative side of C409 as a GND connection. If the GND of C459 is still there I would: 1. That should be from GND (pin 10) to VCC (pin 20)
They both are at the far corners of the chip.
