Re: Something experimental - A5000 mouse ball replacement.
So, by way of experimentation, I made a ball from Milliput, an epoxy putty, to see what the weight difference was between that, Delrin, epoxy resin and the steel ball. PXL_20230328_144600486.jpg It's not round enough to use, but size-wise it does give an idea of weight, and it is twice that of the D...

Re: Has my PSU been recapped already?
No, it's all clear around the base of the electrolytics and in fact they are all a couple of mm above the board. I do see what you mean about the bridge rectifier, it does look a little... underwhelming... althouh I guess it doesn't have to handle much current. I'm also please to see a decent X2 fi...

Re: Oops, my obsession with computers from my childhood strikes again!
Have also now ordered the v2 Analog PCBs from JLPCB, so now need to get the BoM and order the parts. There'll be 5 in total so I may have spares later if anybody is interested, they are VGA boards for the Apple ][.
Some very fine soldering involved though, I hope I'm up to it!!

Re: Has my PSU been recapped already?
Picture uploaded Atari ST PSU.jpg Ok, so one question, is there any hot snot around the bottom of the caps at all? There sometimes is and it is a giveaway that caps are most likely original. My feeling is that these are originals as I have caps with dots on them like this in my donor boards. Regard...

Re: Has anybody got any experience of JLPCB
I have used JLC and PCBWAY and a million others. JLC are fine for PCB quality. They do offer cheaper postage but takes longer. But if you wanted them in a hurry maybe we could team up and I will just order them. Then we can split the postage for the courier. I am always doing orders to them anyway....

Has anybody got any experience of JLPCB
Morning all. I'm looking to order some v2 Analog PCBs (It's a VGA adapter for the Apple ][ ) and in the past I'd usually use PCBWay, but a minimum of 5 PCBs plus postage is nearly £90. Trying JLPCB, it comes in at £60 for the minimum 5 PCBs, which is much more appealing :) So I was wondering if anyo...

Re: Oops, my obsession with computers from my childhood strikes again!
I replaced the caps I had in stock this morning and tested the old items. The 10v1000uF caps all tested out of circuit are reading about 1800-1900uF. I'd expect maybe a 20% tolerance, but that is well beyond that, so in go the new ones. The 10v220uF caps tested between 265-275uF which is at the top ...

Re: Has my PSU been recapped already?
Ahh, interesting thanks for the link. So looks like there is no reason to think my unit has been recapped. One reason I was considering doing it was that although none of the capacitors showed signs of stress or age, I was seeing around 100mV of noise on the 5V rail. Looking through the information...
