Re: STFM 4MB SIMM ADAPTER KIT INSTALL BLOG
Ok it's fitted. Powered it on to boot the flashfloppy loader and I get 3 bombs on the screen:
It boots to TOS if I unplug the gotek
Ideas from those more brainy than me much appreciated
Any ideas? It's hardwired to be in 4mb mode - maybe needs to use 1mb?It boots to TOS if I unplug the gotek

Re: Ordering the Alpha board
Could someone elaborate on what the alpha board is? I'm assuming it's some kind of prototype ST clone? What does it do over a standard ST/STE (if anything)?

Shielding - is it needed?
I will shortly be re assembling my 520 STFM, and am wondering if the metal shielding is really needed? I was going to leave it off like I have on my Amiga and just store it in the loft in case I ever feel the need to put it back. It just seems pointless going to the trouble of modifying the shieldin...

Re: STFM 4MB SIMM ADAPTER KIT INSTALL BLOG
:bravo: Make sure you have no broken tracks on the motherboard where the pins will solder to, hard to find such faults when its all soldered in place! I will double check - I did find one that I had to repair. I still need to check that any plated through holes still connect to tracks that may be o...

Re: STFM 4MB SIMM ADAPTER KIT INSTALL BLOG
Nearly done. Took a long time (Nearly all day with a few short breaks to do other stuff) The board isn't yet soldered to the motherboard, but is otherwise complete. 20180729_203030.jpg The capacitor C49 has been relocated even though I probably didn't need to refit it (both ends of inductor L51 seem...

Re: STFM 4MB SIMM ADAPTER KIT INSTALL BLOG
Follow up on my last post. Until anyone tells me otherwise, I've connected the capacitor between the earth pad and the lower pad of the inductor (Because there's a hole for a component half way along the inductor and it looks like that may be where it was connected in the how to guide. 20180729_1552...

Re: STFM 4MB SIMM ADAPTER KIT INSTALL BLOG
Next question. I've removed C49 (blue capacitor on the right hand side of the Ram on the motherboard) My motherboard is slightly different to the one in the 'how to' guide. Can someone confirm that where I've indicated in red is where I should reposition it to? Continuity tester appears to say yes, ...

Re: STFM 4MB SIMM ADAPTER KIT INSTALL BLOG
I'm halfway through and have managed to get 8 out so far - hopefully they all still work :) Because my motherboard is a 520 st, I need to put resistors in r71-73. I understand they're supposed to be 68r, but I only have 47 and 120. Will either of those do the job or shall I order myself a few 68s. T...

Re: STFM 4MB SIMM ADAPTER KIT INSTALL BLOG
Thanks Chris that's really useful. I don't own any side cutters but it looks like I probably should!
