Do you have "canned air", a can with gas used to dust off electronics? If you flip it upside down, you will have a freezer. So try to freeze Antic chip (you may also try with Sally), and check if the computer is running correctly as long as you are dripping liquified gas onto it.

Re: Seagate ST-251 MFM HD problem
I also had no reaction from this jumper on a drive with bad track 0. However, I've eventually managed to initialize low level format and disk went back to life.

Re: Review hard disk options for STM & STFM?
You can't really discuss drives without drivers. Personally I only recommend two if you're buying: HDDRIVER - Expensive if you only need it for a single machine, but it does support a lot of devices and is still in development. Works with IDE or ACSI drives. If you can justify the cost, this is the...

Re: STE RTC DCF77
You can go my way, and intercept the communication between IKBD and ST to inject correct time. This requires no software at the ST side, and allows you to bypass Y2K limitation without patching anything in ST, as the TOS, XBIOS and GEMDOS are completely fine with years over 2000 (the safe limit is 2...

Re: Ultrasatan worth it or not?
I have the UltraSATAN, but recently I've built the ACSI2STM, and it is a huge competitor. Recently (3.x) it got integrated driver, which is injected into the bootsector during boot, so you can use standard FAT16 SD cards, and they will autoboot without installing any driver on them. If you wish, you...

Re: It's 600XL time!
If you see no activity on the databus, together with having all clocks and activity on the address bus, the databus is likely to be shorted to ground, and the ROMs are most obvious to be blamed for such behavior. Databus is directly connected (in parallel) to both OS and BASIC ROMs.

Don't fully trust TL866 in terms of TTL testing, especially those less common. There are mistakes in the test vectors, verify them first.

In early 800XL (not XLF) all Atari specific chips (excl. ROMs) are in sockets...rubber_jonnie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 2:21 pmI think I need to pull the lid off the 800XL too, see what parts are socketed that I can borrow for testing.

Re: XGecu TL866II Plus photos (from Amazon)
The process I tend to use is to start an emulator like Hatari or Steem (If you're running Linux then Hatari is the best option) and set up a machine running the ROM you want, then use one of the ST rom dumping apps such as ROMDUMP or TOSDUMP to dump the ROMs to file directly. What's the point of do...
