Re: Help with 4mb ram upgrade on 520ST C070243 REV. B

With respect to failure modes, yes, if a chip fails it can pull high or low the line in a manner which could over time cause damage to other chips on that line by draining too much current and damaging the line drivers. Yes indeed. If this is then main worry then cut the Dout pin (Pin 2) as this is...

Re: Help with 4mb ram upgrade on 520ST C070243 REV. B

I asked my old boss about the cutting vcc as I know I was told this when I first started my electronics job. But I stopped doing that and don't remember why. It was almost 30 years ago. HOWEVER. He did mention it was VCC AND GND which were to be cut. I think this is where a lot of the confusion come...

Re: Help with 4mb ram upgrade on 520ST C070243 REV. B

Its been talked about before about cutting power pins. I've powerd up chips and had them malfunction with missing vcc power in the past as well as other people. As I said months ago, in some cases it might be safe, but in others not. Some people say its safe, but is it ? "It works" is not ...

Re: Has anybody got any experience of JLPCB

I have used JLC and PCBWAY and a million others. JLC are fine for PCB quality.

They do offer cheaper postage but takes longer. But if you wanted them in a hurry maybe we could team up and I will just order them. Then we can split the postage for the courier. I am always doing orders to them anyway.

Re: Help with 4mb ram upgrade on 520ST C070243 REV. B

I was looking into this problem today in fact. I've had to mark it on my site that rev D and earlier boards do not have the resistors. So other than tracing and cutting tracks as rubber_jonnie mentioned , I don't see there is any simple test solution. Both my boards are rev H. So I can't even trace ...

Re: Has my PSU been recapped already?

From factory https://exxosforum.co.uk/atari/last/psu/index.htm if you look at the first image. No idea why it was All done. All sorts have had pen or paint on them from factory. Some ICs have marker pen or painted dots on them. Its possible someone just marked the negative side of the caps so the as...

Re: LarryL's H5C1 build

Maybe the wire didn’t have good contact before Sorry for the confusion - seems the problem was „in front of the computer“, as mostly ;-) :lolbig: :imwithstupid: It's possible you could have something a little "bad" on the 16MHz line. Maybe the length of wire is too long or the output of t...
