Re: R_J Progress

I know, but I've been trying to get that magic smoke from tiles with my angle grinder :D

Re: R_J Progress

R_J, how are things going with the board? Guessing your getting close to applying power!!. Enquiring minds are querious. :?: Unfortunately my Christmas plans to get things going have crashed and burned! Thankfully not literally burned (No magic smoke thankfully), just figuratively. We were supposed...

Re: CO700115 REV. 2B with Piggyback RAM expansion.

Well done, if it's one thing I've learned, it's when you start to get Ram problems on an old computer, it's usually a good idea to change the lot and then work out what still might work 😁 I quite agree, and once I'd tweaked the PLCC socket pins for the MMU and GLUE, and the original memory was gone...

Re: EAGLE CAD SCHEMATIC EDITOR TUTORIAL PART 1

Thanks for putting this together, Eagle is another thing I've struggled to find good tutorials for, so I'll be going to have a proper run through this. When I actually finish tiling the kitchen :(

Re: Moving UK STs to the US: SR98 110v mod?

Have you considered a step up transformer as a short term solution?

It would at least allow you to use your STs until you could find an alternate PSU to replace the SR 98s.

Re: CO700115 REV. 2B with Piggyback RAM expansion.

Well, all the old RAM is removed, and a SIMM upgrade installed on the MMU and Shifter, and she lives again. Very happy to be looking at this desktop right now 😁

Re: PLCC socket - Adjusting the contacts

Yeah, pretty much what I'd been using too, but I kept loosing it, so decided I'd be better to make something more permanent. And less likely to lose!

PLCC socket - Adjusting the contacts

I spoke to exxos a couple of weeks back with regards to PLCC sockets, and how that over time the metal fingers that make contact with the chip can lose contact causing all sorts of weird problems. I'd had 2 machines with odd problems that turned out to be loss of contact within the PLCC socket, so d...

Re: Recent 800 acquisitions

I'm still running an original 800XL PSU with both my 800XL and my 65XE (I've owned from new) with no problems. My experience of Atari 8bit PSUs has been nothing but good, and I've had 8 Bits for over 30 years. I'm in the UK BTW. That being said, it is always worthwhile to dismantle and check there i...
