Re: No clock signal to the Shifter

Ijor is of course totally correct. If you are seeing output pulses from the shifter (that being, the 9 RGB pins plus MONO), then the system clock is functioning and quite a lot of other stuff is also working. You are probably even running some ROM code from the beginning of TOS, because the palette ...

Re: No clock signal to the Shifter

Hullo, just wanted to put my 2c in. The 32MHz clock going into the shifter is very weak and it can be hard to detect it if your scope is too low impedance. A better test is the 16MHz coming out on a different pin, which is buffered. The shifter also plays an integral role in generating the clock wit...

Re: Smonson's untitled simple harddisk project

Yo. So time passed, and I've got this one all made up now. It works perfectly apart from the same issues that the last one had :D The serial console is something I should have included from the start... you live and learn! r5.jpg serial-console.jpg Although there is one new thing, and it's a mystery...

2 bombs is Bus Error. That top list is the GEM error code numbers.

I see 2 bombs a lot because I suck at programming ;)

Re: Smonson's untitled simple harddisk project

And now exactly the same thing again only in TQFP-100. Why? Because I still have 4 of them. There is no way to buy any 5M40Z, 5M80Z, 5M160Z or 5M240Z in any QFP-64 or QFP-100 from Mouser, they just have a few -144s left. hd5.jpg And I just saw that in July Intel are going to stop producing MAX II, M...

Re: Smonson's untitled simple harddisk project

Been trying to finish some projects recently. I got the last prototype of this drive working pretty well - but still occasionally some data corruption happens. With just 2 LEDs for debugging, it was pretty hard to work out what was going on, so I've got a bigger "hero" prototype design rea...

I've mocked up the next prototype board in preparation for ordering.

I stuck all the decoupling capacitors for the FPGA on the bottom side this time (there's about 8)... time will tell if that turns out to be a terrible mistake.

Re: Smonson's slow H4 build

Well, haha, I made another ROM decoder up to install in my other STFM. The good news is that it worked.

But the bad news is something that I probably should have seen coming a mile away.

Ahhh well. I'll just have to make an alternate version with the CPU further back.

Re: Smonson's slow H4 build

It worked first time and boots up 2.06 on the H4 (yay), but 1.04 crashes after about a second. I guess that's progress! My mistake was that I connected the ROM selector from the GLUE, which I have been calling ROM2, to that pin (ROM2). But actually this is not ROM2 at all because ROM2 only selects ...

Re: Smonson's slow H4 build

I finally assembled the board representing the schematic above... only a few years late. It worked first time and boots up 2.06 on the H4 (yay), but 1.04 crashes after about a second. I guess that's progress! I'll poke around some more on it soon to figure out what isn't working. completed-board.jpg...
