Re: exxos's DFB1 trials

I'm starting to think all the 030 cpus have been reprinted as the latest mask. According my my google-foo people claim earlier masks can only do up to 40mhz. Though it's seemingly a thermal issue with the CPU as a fan blowing over it helps. But not enough for stable operation. Mostly it fails on FPU...

Re: exxos's DFB1 trials

Does anyone know if it's possible to read the CPU mask via software like on the CT60 ?

Re: Mega STE timer speeds up. Bad 68901?

You could try GB6 and see if you get drifting results over time. It uses the 200hz timer tick for the results calculations.

mikro wrote: Wed Jun 28, 2023 9:43 am @exxos oh, now it occured to me: isn't possible that you got confused that this is a RMW cycle? I.e. it's not a write per se, it's an OR against the hardware register.
Hmmm I'll have to check the timings diagram but I'd assume write would still actually go low ?

Re: exxos's DFB1 trials

mikro the problem I'm having is I don't detect any writes to that register until it gets to desktop. The falcon switches to 8mhz if you hold reset, then at some point very soon after releasing reset, it switches to 16mhz. But there doesn't seem to be any writes to set 16mhz until it gets to desktop...

Re: DFB1X Falcon booster buyers interests

I thought someone said that if TOS was modified to understand TT-RAM at boot then the desktop crashes. I assume its the same as with the ST, where video RAM tries to allocate into TTram. So you end up with "no video" because the shifter cannot access TTram. Though I modified TOS206 to ena...

Re: DFB1X Falcon booster buyers interests

Indeed, which means that VDI is mallocing RAM from TT-RAM. If whichever GEMDOS call it's making were forced to malloc only from ST-RAM then there would not be a problem as all GEM blit transfers would be in ST-RAM. The TT has a separate malloc call to request allocation of memory in TT-RAM. Isn't t...

Re: DFB1X Falcon booster buyers interests

So can't you just replace the calls in the ROM to software routines taken from TOS 3.06? Guess that would only work in "TT compatible" resolutions for the pixel depths thinking about it. No glue, in theory I guess yes, but It would just be easier to use EMUTOS in that case. Is it a proble...

Re: exxos's DFB1 trials

Something to think about maybe, have to check with Badwolf, is how dependent is the DFB at boot on the TOS ROM? AIRC, the DFB can boot flashed TOS without the Falcon ROM, but at what point does the DFB take over? A stock Falcon switches to 16MHz pretty early. If there is a boot dependency of the DF...
