Q: Would this work still with the original 520 ST (not STFM)

Re: V2.5 BOOSTER CURRENT PROTOTYPE STATUS

Meanwhile, the V2.2 booster has been out of stock for some time, so I really need to wrap up this booster as its successor. Fast-Ram will run over 6x faster along with ROM and the CPU. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but adding alt-ram will require TOS 2.06 and it won't be of use for anything that does...

Re: V2.5 BOOSTER CURRENT PROTOTYPE STATUS

IMHO it's more attractive on the STFM to overclock the MMU. While not as fast as running it directly off the CPU, it's proper ST RAM and it's an "easy" 200% boost.

FAST ROM, sure.

Re: Was WD1772 obsolete in 1985 ?

OK, OK, I believe you about that try and change mode. I just said what is on schematic. Well I agree pin 2 is connected to the PAL, but I can only assume that's an output. Epson 340 does take density select as an _input_ on pin 2. http://floppy.shugart.free.fr/docs/epson/epson_smd340.pdf (I think t...

But density line from floppy is used, and goes to PAL chip - look schematic. Possible that there are diverse revisions.
There's no density output from the Epson 340 :)

Re: Was WD1772 obsolete in 1985 ?

MSTE doesn't use disk density signals to select clock. Basically it just tries both and sees which mode works ..

Re: V2.5 BOOSTER CURRENT PROTOTYPE STATUS

Amazing. How hot does the CPU get?

(Thinking about how I had to put a heatsink on the Shifter when I run it at 64MHz)

Re: Some questions about Gotek and HxC

"On my website (https://www.chzsoft.de/site/hardware/usb-stick-floppy-emulator-am-atari-st/, sorry that page is in German only), I have 1.44(!) MB HFE-format floppy disk image (i.e. 80 tracks, 2 sides, 18 sectors) that I use with my unmodified ST and a Gotek with HxC firmware." - czietz http://www.a...

Re: Some questions about Gotek and HxC

Yes it's possible to use very large floppy images with HxC. I'm not sure they're compatible with some existing format though.

Re: 1040 STF rolling screen

Yeah that's an obvious 60Hz TOS-is-not-setting-50Hz screen. It means something is either holding RESET high or your TOS chips are faulty which means the computer doesn't even get through the first few instructions.
