Re: STE V1.5 32MHz BOOSTER - STATUS

I'd be interested in the results. Its refusing to boot at all again  It did once come up the Atari logo and "Bad ROM chips" error.. but the ROM is fine (works always with CPU direct in the MB socket). Fair enough. Is it possible to test the CPUs in an old style booster to see if they are stab...

Re: Which recap kit for PhiHong 2512-2???

No 2512 re-cap kit yet. I've just not had time to do all the work with it all. If you change the main output caps (normally largest after the 400V one) then it should be fine for now. Forget ebay for caps, not worth the risk. Use a reputable brand like panasonic and get them from farnell etc. Don't ...

Re: STE V1.5 32MHz BOOSTER - STATUS

So do they run fine at 8Mhz? From previous tests no.. But that could have been bad soldering.. I will re-test later. You could perhaps rule out heating by having a fan blow a constant flow of cool air over the CPU, plus a small stick on heat sink to rule out heating? I don't think its a thermal pro...

Farnell never not down anymore ?!

Go on Farnell at night.. its down.. go on in the morning.. its down.. If they had just left the old site alone it would have been a lot better and they probably wouldn't be moaning about dropping sales!

Re: STE V1.5 32MHz BOOSTER - STATUS

I left it running last night, got to around loop 50 and died. Rebooted it ran until about loop 10. Rebooted it ran until about loop 8. Rebooted it ran until about loop 5. This seems more like the CPU is overheating and crapping out. I left it overnight, turned it on this morning, ran up until about ...

Re: STE V1.5 32MHz BOOSTER - STATUS

The board which died earlier.. I fluxed it to death and put it in the oven with a profile which stays hotter for longer.. I put the GAL in the socket as I knew the socket would melt and I would not get the chip in afterwards  (The previous board I had to take off test but it did run for almost ...

Re: STE V1.5 32MHz BOOSTER - STATUS

Do you have a thermocouple you can place on the CPU when the board is in the oven to check the temps? Only a IR one, doesn't much help with the small oven window :( Could it also be that the pins you push into the socket are moving with heat? The pins on the PCB I solder by hand after the CPU (and ...

Re: STE V1.5 32MHz BOOSTER - STATUS

So the board I have been using isn't booting at all now  there just must be some bad connection on it still.. (This is the board I put double solder paste on the pins on the CPU). It just seemed to get progressively worse as the day go on until the point it stopped booting altogether. Went bac...

Re: STE V1.5 32MHz BOOSTER - STATUS

Sometimes a slow slew rate can causes issues, stronger pullup as you tried. Depends on the logic family. Also that signal is not monotonic, likely caused by reflections. Especially nasty if it happens between the logic thresholds as it looks like it does. More modern faster logic is more sensitive ...

Re: STE V1.5 32MHz BOOSTER - STATUS

At some point the ROM CS wire had snapped off  I soldered it back on and now just getting rows of bombs pretty soon after GB6 starts. Removing the wire and it did not bomb. So this seems yet another problem which has only just started to show up  So I have tweaked the code and added in a...
