Re: Sporniket's log on hardware stuff

A little micro-step forward for my project of DC power supply for my STe : I hacked a IEC 60320 C13 and put a 55-21 barrel jack connector, so that I can either use a usual power brick (I found one on amazon, 5V at 4Amps, that I have to test), either a USB power delivery trigger with a suitable jack...

Re: Level shifter - fast enough for ST ROM chip enable?

What's wrong with a simple 74HCT244? Should be more than enough. You have plenty of time both to enable and disable the output.

He is reading from the cart to the cpu bus, not the other way around. Cart port is read only.

Re: Old ICs are getting impossible to find now

I imagine it depends how much of the WDC design Toshiba inherited. Toshiba almost certainly had a completely different process to WDC and so couldn't use any of their masks/layout. It was just before logic synthesis took off so the design was probably schematics and re-made? The WD1772 is old schoo...

Interesting, missed this comment earlier. Do you know if the company still has any masks or layout files, or whatever, for the Ajax, or for that matter for any interesting old school chip?

Re: Request for building a simple board

If you don't find the headers with all the pins at Ebay, just buy them at Mouser or Digikey. I know they will be more expensive, but we don't need much and I'd gladly pay a bit more for high quality headers. Or if you prefer I can order them myself and make them ship to you direclty.

Some headers do have a missing pin for keying purposes, but some don't. I think it's better to use a "plain" header with all the 40 pins.

Re: Request for building a simple board

@ijor what about unused pins on the connector, leave unconnected or connect to gnd ? Yeah, not very important, but unconnected is just fine. Please check it's correct. Just perfect :) Also not sure where the location tab should be ? You mean the space for the mating tab? You can see it in the pics ...

Re: Request for building a simple board

- Connect CPU clock both to pins 1 & 3 in one single connector - Pins 1 & 3 in the other connectors should be left unconnected - Connect GND to pins 12 & 30 in both connectors - Leave power pins 11 & 29 unconnected in both connectors (to avoid ground loops) - Other CPU pins can be co...

Re: Where do you draw the line ?

But I am looking to use @ijor's cores as they are more mature than suska and @ijor actively maintains them. As to if he can add STE features.. maybe. I want to add DMA playback from the STE, but not sure what else the STE really has to offer which is of some actual use ? It is certainly possible to...

Re: Old ICs are getting impossible to find now

The WD1772 was also used in some later Atari 8-bit drives, like the XF-551.

I don't know exactly the reason, but I remember the WD1772 being quite expensive years ago already. It was always more expensive than other WD controllers like the WD279X.
