Atari Diagnostics v4.4 on Atari ST 520+

Post by zChris »

Ive run the atari diagnostic on a 520+ that i have acquired. It has Tos 1.04 that i have written and it boots up fine and can play games. But in the diagnostic cartridge it complains when i do OS ROM test that only 2 of the roms has the correct checksum. It also complains on DMA port test but im not sure if 520+ is inteded to have that or not ?

Are these "faults" something to be worried of?

The diagnostic works only up to TOS 1.02 so the checksum error with TOS 1.04 is normal. For the DMA and other tests you need the diagnostic testboard ...

Chris, without the test board and wrap cables a number of the tests will fail, DMA, serial, midi, parallel port, and mouse and joy stick port tests. It's still very useful since you can run the tests and get results from the serial port if it's functional.

Oh, that's great to hear :) Nothing to worry about then.

The ROM message happens on pretty much all of my machines. I had the same message 10 minutes ago on a 520STFM I was testing, it just can't fully tell how many ROMS are in your set,

As has been said, you need the loopback cables to test a lot of stuff, and unless you have a lot of machines to work on, it probably isn't worth the investment. If you really want a kit, you can get them at gossuin.be.

Damn, that's bad news. Hopefully it's temporary, he's done so before but the message to come back for clearance stuff is worrying.
