But to be honest: I like the XLs design better... and it clearly had the superior keyboard. Rivals even modern Cherry MX Browns in my opinion

Yeah, XL has a much better keyboard, XE is quite rubbery.
My XE has worn well though, and all the better for a clean and upgrade to 128K:
