Electronics learning...

Post by Shugs81 » Tue Jul 24, 2018 9:06 am

Hi peeps...

So I was thinking... I enjoy Soldering... I can (mostly) follow a schematic...

I'd be interested in learning they whys and how's of it all and looking for an online course I can watch or listen to while I'm at work...

Should I be looking for electronics courses or electronic engineering courses?? Which would cover ic chips and what they do and how to test etc??

Also is there a Udemy course you could recommend??

Thanks!!!

Ben Eater's YouTube channel gave me an understanding on how computers work through logic ICs and how data is transferred. He actually builds a computer from scratch using TTL chips on a breadboard.

EEVblog is a good resource for electronics and engineering.

Louis Rossmann is an entertaining and brilliant repair-guy. Although he works mostly on Macs, the principles remain the same. He explains in detail what components do in circuits and how to troubleshoot problems logically with schematics.

So those are the channels that have influenced me the most. There are many more I follow.

I think that best way for learning is practice. Listening to someone doing it is fine, but nothing can replace own experience.
Since this thread is called 'electronics .. ' and not computer - I may say that should start with something simple, like transistor based circuits. That is really the base. ICs can come later.
There is 2 kind of people: one thinking about moving to Mars after here becomes too bad, the others thinking about how to keep this planet habitable.

I'm happy with all types of learning!!

Specially if it's free!! 😁 😁

I can do a lot of basic stuff... I used to build guitar pedals.. Though that was from schematics not knowing what bits did.. Always remember thee was a boutique pedal selling for £150 ish... Cost me £5 in components and sounded excellent!! 😁
