They're not that hard to get working if you know how (With the ST it needs feeding sync through an LM1881 stripper IC), but it's pointless because they're rubbish. People advertise them as scandoublers but really they're just incredibly crap scalers.

You'd be better off with a SCART tv.
l fully agree, I had my hands on one a month ago and they're beyond awful. Besides the terrible colours, the thing tries to de-interlace the non-interlaced signal from the ST which gives a horrible result. Be aware that almost all of the cheap scan doublers do this and there usually is no way of turning that 'feature' off.
